View Full Version : Cracklin' Rose, you’re a store-bought woman
You make me sing like a guitar hummin’
So hang on to me, girl
Our song keeps runnin’ on
Play it now
Play it now, my baby
God, the Korean corner store plays the worst music on Saturday mornings. I just wanted a freakin' scone. Now that song's gonna be stuck in my head for the next 24 hours.
Oh, I love my rosie child
You got the way to make me happy
GAAAH!

I feel your pain. I once endured a week with "Macho Man" stuck in my head. Hell holds no terrors for me 'cause I've already been there.

What the hell is a "store-bought woman" anyway? Is that whole song about a guy and his blowup doll?

Hell, I'm still trying to figure out what he meant by "and no one heard at all, not even the chair."
Just turn on your heartlight, Michael and try not to think about it too much.

Heh. Y'know, I actually like some of Diamond's stuff, like "Sweet Caroline" and "Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show," but sometimes I have to wonder if he wasn't on more drugs than the Stones when he wrote his lyrics.

See, I don't have this problem because I love all music, especially crappy music. Once, when on vaction in New Hampshire, I spent much of my week in the car with my aunt who only listen to a station that played instrumental versions of every song imaginable as long as you can only imagine top 20 hits from the 70's and 80's, and I liked it, god help me, I liked it . . .

Wake Me Up! Before you go-go
Jitterbug [4X]
You put the boom-boom into my heart
You send my soul sky high when your lovin' starts
Jitterbug into my brain
Goes a bang-bang-bang 'til my feet do the same
But something's bugging you
Something ain't right
My best friend told me what you did last night
Left me sleepin' in my bed
I was dreaming, but I should have been with you instead.
Wake me up before you go-go
Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo
Wake me up before you go-go
I don't want to miss it when you hit that high
Wake me up before you go-go
'Cause I'm not plannin' on going solo
Wake me up before you go-go
Take me dancing tonight
I wanna hit that high (yeah, yeah)
You take the grey skies out of my way
You make the sun shine brighter than Doris Day
Turned a bright spark into a flame
My beats per minute never been the same
'Cause you're my lady, I'm your fool
It makes me crazy when you act so cruel
Come on, baby, let's not fight
(http://www.songlyrics.com/link.php?id=8)
We'll go dancing, everything will be all right
Wake me up before you go-go
Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo
Wake me up before you go-go
I don't want to miss it when you hit that high
Wake me up before you go-go
'Cause I'm not plannin'' on going solo
Wake me up before you go-go
Take me dancing tonight
I wanna hit that high (yeah, yeah, baby)
(Jitterbug)
(Jitterbug)
Cuddle up, baby, move in tight
We'll go dancing tomorrow night
It's cold out there, but it's warm in bed
They can dance, we'll stay home instead
(Jitterbug)
Wake me up before you go-go
Don't leave me hanging on like a yo-yo
Wake me up before you go-go
I don't want to miss it when you hit that high
Wake me up before you go-go
'Cause I'm not plannin' on going solo
Wake me up before you go-go
Take me dancing tonight
Wake me up before you go-go, don't you dare to leave me hanging on like a
yo-yo
Take me dancing
(Boom-boom-boom)

Heh. You haven't lived until you've ridden in the car with my grandma. I don't know what station would want to play only music recorded before 1947, but dammit, she found one.

And I love that song. The Jewish Elvis turned out a handful of pretty good pop tunes in the early stages of his career.

My best friend's band does a rocked up version of "Sweet Caroline." It's a great song. And it never fails to get the 30 and 40-something ladies up and dancing...which is a very good thing.

I've been rejoicing recently since this site restored its MP3s. Something there should get those tunes out of your head. . . .
(And it's pronounced "ro-zay," with an accent acute over the "e." "Crackling" refers to its carbonation. At least it isn't a love song to Rosie O'Donnell . . .)
I've been using Joey for years for just this sort of thing and it's kinda lost its effectiveness.
I find that Brass in Pocket works sometimes now.

I find the best thing is to start up a piece of music in my head that's in a different time signature. For instance, once I've got a 3/4 rhythm going, most pop music can no longer sink in as it's almost always 4/4. (That's no help if the song you're trying to get rid of is On the Wings of a Dove, though)

You just like him because they play him at Fenway. :)
Which is as good a reason to like him as any I know.
Me, I know ALL the songs because my mom had an eight track.

That Korean store could've been playing "America."
That song has always made me want to defect to the Communists.
Besides having a Top 40 run, a local auto dealership used that song in its commercials for years.

Speaking of lyrics...
Number forty-seven said to number three
"You're the cutest jailbird I ever did see"
"I sure would be delighted with your company"
"Come on and do the Jailhouse Rock with me"
Let's rock, everybody, let's rock.
Everybody in the whole cell block
Was dancin' to the Jailhouse Rock.
Now rock was slang for copulating...
