Here's an idea for a project. It's not deep enough an idea that DC legal would worry about copyrights either.

FIX THE BRAINIAC NUMBERING SYSTEM

If you've seen the threads here and on the DC universe thread, it has become quite a matter of contention. I think Brainiac 8 was the straw that broke the camel's back for a lot of people.

I don't think a lot of writers are up to it. Geoff Johns could probably do it, although I think his tendency is to complexify origins rather than simply them. (ala superboy)

The worse that could happen is DC says, "No, we don't like your proposal, we want our readers to be confused."

DC has tons of talented writers that could tackle this. Which one depends on what solution you'd want to see:

For example:

Geoff Johns -- Will write a solution that somehow fits together all of Braniac's last 50 appearances in continuity and even fix other questions about Braniac's origin you didn't know existed. Some obscure 1980's character will guest star for no reason.

Gail Simone -- Will write a great story, but Braniac's numbering system won't be the focus, just the backdrop. However, we'll get to see all of the in-depth character traits of every single Braniac who ever existed, including Braniac 32, the nanite who was only alive for 30 seconds.

Mark Waid -- Will write a controversial tale that features a "number retcon" where he'll simply renumber all of the Braniac's with no explanation. (You thought that was Braniac 5? He's really Braniac 112!)

John Byrne -- Will explain why the Braniac numbering system is all screwed up telling an untold tale involving time travel! Not only that, the big reveal will be that all of the Braniac's were really mechanical clones of the other Braniacs. Other writers misunderstand Byrne's intent with the numbering fix and try to build on the story--furthering complicating matters.

Judd Winick -- May write a fantastic tale--or it could be utter crap. Either way, it won't matter because fans will argue about whether or not he included subtext that Braniac 8 is really a lesbian.

They could get Adam Warren to fix it: It turns out that while there is actually a proper Braniac numbering scheme, it's unimportant because in reality, every Braniac is just a component of Brabiac ℙ. Their actions, plans, plots, and very movements where all just computational processes that fedback into Braniac ℙ's operational matrix and helped him calculate the algorithm needed to spark the life that would, in the next iteration of the universe, become the Oans. For with no Oans, there would be no Kryptonians, and with no Kryptonians, the next iteration of the universe would lack a Braniac ℙ.

Actually, given that he created her, if he wanted her to be gay, she would be. Judd's only THAT subtle if it's pre-existing characters.
