new x-men died with morrison leaving. this new hellions balony is a load of crap. i thought "hmm well i'll give it a try" crap. like that guy TAP what a loser, although i have to admit the rock guy is kinda cool. it just seems really bland to me. new x-men was amazing. new x-men was just the epitome of what the x-men were. mutants saving the world more times before breakfast before you can say "charles xavier". now all we got is a bunch of whiny teenagers who know nothing about anything. which i do have to admit is what teenagers are all about (i know cause i am one) i just can't wait till its done and over with...

New X-Men: Academy X isn't meant to be a continuation of New X-Men. While it includes elements born from Morrison's run, it's more of a continuation from New Mutants, which was what the book was pre-Reloaded. Astonishing X-Men is the basic continuation from New X-Men, as it retains the core cast with the addition of Colossus and Kitty. If you don't like it, there is the option of not reading it. Remember that noone is forcing you to buy anything. Many of us consider it one of the top X-Books, because of it's freshness. :)

Thats probally because they are two totally different kind of comics... yes mutants and similar titles (this is when the X-Franchise gets confusing) but different. Too each there own.

I don't miss Morrison but I will agree that they've gotten too confusing.

I don't see what's so confusing. I came back to X-Comics pretty much totally with Reloaded, after a decade of being away. Other than needing to read up on a few characters who I wasn't totally knowledgable about, I didn't have any trouble jumping in. :)

Whats confusing is if you don't pay attention to the net... it's very hard to just jump on to a book and know what to expect.

A history lesson.
New X-Men reverted to it's former title X-Men with issue #157. Morrison's last issue was #154. Chuck Austen wrote New X-Men #155 and 156, and beginning with X-Men #157 brought the team he was writing in Uncanny X-Men over and began writing their stories in the pages of X-Men. Austen's last issue was #166 and Peter Milligan took over with #167.
X-Treme X-Men ended it's run with issue #46. Chris Claremont, the writer of X-Treme, moved with pretty much the same cast to Uncanny X-Men starting with issue #444. Issue #443 was the previously mentioned Austen's last.
A new title called Astonishing X-Men started around this time written by Joss Whedon and drawn by John Cassaday. This title utilizes the cast of Morriosn's New X-Men minus Jean Grey (killed in New X-Men #150) and plus Kitty Pryde and a recently ressurected Colossus.
Also at the same time, the Tsunami title New Mutants ended with issue #13 and was relaunched as New X-Men: Academy X for the X-Men Reload event that was going on at this time. The full title of the book is New X-Men: Acdemy X, though most people simply refer to it as New X-Men, which can lead to a bit of confusion. There is currently a spinoff mini series called New X-Men: Hellions that deals with some of the supporting characters from that book.
That's about it.

dude...they arent even anywhere near the same book and never intended to be a continuation of Morrison's run *says 'thank god' under his breath*
New X-Men:Academy X is one of the best, most refreshing, and most entertaining X-books out there at the moment.

They shouldn't have just called it Academy X instead of reminding everybody of Morrison's grand flustercluck.

And I am one of those people ;) . i can never forgive him for turning one of my favorite X-men Beast, into a character I now can't stand :( . Beast is now a big pussy(as in cat).

Yeah I am not one of the ones that miss Morrison either....
I personally wish they would drop Academy X subtitle, and just call it New X-Men. It is one of the best books on the market though.

I miss Morrison. Whedon's good, but whenever I compare the two, I just know Morrison's written better. :(

I loved Morrison's team and the fact that there seemed to be forward momentum opposed to the normal feeling of being stuck on a hampster wheel.

But other then Xavier being outed, Scott being with Emma, and Xavier's being a more public school... nothing much changed. Magneto (or in this case Xorneto) has died before and came back. Jean has died before and came back. In fact, Morrison's arcs are even based on classic X-Men stories. So the same hamspter wheel is there. It's just a refurbished Hampster Wheel. :)

heh, I was gonna say...
I've been rereading Morrison's run in preparation for my Write Me an X entry, and I do like several bits of it. Very, very few of the characters, not too much story-wise, but much of the actual writing is interesting.
that being said, I love what they are doing in New X-Men. I love the characters (except I may be the only Jullian-hater on the board), and the stories. There was an important niche that was lost with the graduation of the New Mutants into X-Force and the destruction of Generation X. Even if I have to put up with Emma and Jullian
