Hi!
I'm the artist on the Gatesville Company, which was just featured in an interview here on CBR:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=5351
As this is my first comics project, I'm very jazzed to get a bit of press, so let me just say: woohoo!
Also, if anyone has any questions about the series, or comments or whatever I'd love to hear them. Also, if you haven't been to our Gatesville Company site, have a look:

We'll be adding more stuff soon. Check out the "Art" section for some behind the scenes sketches, page pencils, and other stuff.
Thanks!

Got it, read it, liked it. Bryant's story was pretty good, and your art was in a word, beautiful.
I don't usually get into books that are stand alone stories. I like stories with a bigger picture, and complex plots, and recurring characters. Since reading Common Grounds (which I liked) I've become more open to the concept.
Kazuo's and Combs' story was interesting, but left me with questions about them and about Gatesville and its inhabitants. The latter is a good thing, because you can develop/reveal the answers in time. The former, though, is what worries me with this type of book. Since, if I understand correctly, we won't be seeing anymore of Kazuo (gone to heaven?) or Combs (gone to hell?), none of the questions I had about them can be addressed. Maybe in the letters page or on a message board, but not in book.
All in all, though, I enjoyed it. You have me at least for a couple of more issues. A couple more than that if my wife likes it, too! ;)

Thanks! I've very glad to hear you enjoyed it - I appreciate your taking the time to write. And by the way, GREAT use of "spoiler text". :)
I suppose we've done our jobs right if we've left you wanting more of the characters in the issue. The "meta" story of Ms. Brand, Mr. Cross, and Mr. Boat (their relationships, backgrounds, duties, etc.) is what will continue to build throughout the series, while the individual stories will all be "done in one" like this. In fact, the interplay between Cross and Boat heats up decidedly in issue 2. I hope this storytelling technique will keep nice folks like you coming back for more, while others can feel free to jump in at any time!

Just read this thread and the article, so I called my LCS, and they pulled their last copy for me. I'll pick it up tomorrow!

Wow - that is truly great. I hope you like it! (OK, now back to the drawing board for me!)

Hey thanks Ken?
Glad you liked the book, especially since it isn't the kind of thing that's usually your kind of thing. Working with 22 pages an issue, we don't have as much room as we might like to develop the star characters of each story. Personally, I like having things like back-story etc left to the imagination but I can see where the lack of that kind of info could be frustrating too. Feel free to send me an email with any questions you have about Combs and Kazuo. (Thanks too, btw, for the spoiler precaution in your post.)
We *do* definitely have a bigger story to tell here, but for now it won't be at the cost of the book remaining as new reader friendly as possible.
Please keep checking us out (and here's hoping your wife keeps liking the book too).
thanks again,
Marc

Glad to hear it, and thanks for going to the trouble of reserving the book! #2, incidentally, is available for pre-order in the latest Previews. We'll have peeks up soon. Please check back in here, or e-mail and let us know how you like it.

I think I've said it before, guys, but the stuff looks great! Here's hoping it's a huge, huge success for ya! I'm certainly along for the ride.
(And Ken, thanks for the nice words about Common Grounds).

Thanks, Troy - we appreciate the support! (Troy sent along a real nice letter when we were first getting Gatesville up and running a couple of months ago.) You're one of the cool ones in by book. :)
