A 7 CD Ray Charles box set will be released September 20th.

The set is entitled: Pure Genius: The Complete Atlantic Recordings (1952 - 1959). It will be released by Rhino Records for $150.

The set contains 7 audio CDs featuring 164 tracks made up of live cuts, rarities, collaborations and more. There's a hour of previously unreleased music and dialogue.

A bonus DVD featuring 9 additional tracks is also included. The DVD is a video of his 1960 performance at the Newport Jazz Festival.

Also on September 20th, the sequel to the Ray Charles duets album,Ray Charles: Genius & Friends, comes out. Produced by Phil Ramone the album contains songs that were recorded BEFORE Genius Loves Company and other early works from Charles with modern artists being added into the mix.

The Roots have split from Geffen Records and signed a new deal with Def Jam Left. They'll release the new album Game Theory sometime in 2006.

Meanwhile, Geffen will release a compilation CD featuring album tracks, remixes, and B-sides on November 15th. The album is called Home Grown! Volume 1 & 2: Beginners Guide To Understanding The Roots.

LL Cool J will have his 12 studio album, My Favorite Flavor, out in stores in mid-February 2006.

Either way I did some digging and turned up the explanation for the "reunion" (http://msnbc.msn.com/id/10143012/). Ric Ocasek has decided not to participate and Rundgren needs to pay bills. He also said on E! Online (http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,17824,00.html)

"Musicians have notoriously brief careers," he said. "So you see, if someone gives you an opportunity to make a good living for a year without violating your musical ethics (or having to play Beatles songs) and throws in the opportunity to retain your own identity and perform your own material and possibly create new fans, what choice do you have, really?”

Ric Ocasek apparently also gave his blessing to the venture.

Neil Diamond's 12 Songs album will be reissued as a two disc set on December 12th. The second disc will contain 12 unreleased demos and alternate takes. The disc is called Artist's Cut - 12 Sketches. The original album will also feature the bonus cuts "Men Are So Easy" and "Delirious Love" (an alternate version of the song with Brian Wilson). Those two songs were originally only available on a limited edition version of the CD.

The Oasis compilation "Stop the Clocks" comes out in the same week as the new U2 collection.

Stop the Clocks is more or less a contractual obligation - Noel reluctantly agreed to choose the tracks - had it been up to him, the band would not put out a "greatest hits" until they disbanded.

Some tracks have been slightly remastered, but there are no new songs. Mid 90s B-side "Acquiesce" (one of their strongest tracks) is being released as a single, and a snazzy animated video for "The Masterplan" has also been released.

Despite the fact all their singles since Live Forever in 94 have reached the top 5 in the UK singles chart, many of these songs have been left off in favour of b-sides and album tracks.

If it were to be a real "greatest hits" we'd have:
