Lucky, lucky, lucky (insert expletive here). :p
Seriously though, enjoy yourself, I hope it rocks your world.
Never seen them live, up until recently was starting to think I'd never get the chance, but they are headling the Carling Leeds/Reading festival in August and I have tickets!!! Yay!!! :D :D :D
Let us know how it goes.

I was too broke to see them, but my girlfriend got to go cause a friend paid for her. She felt guilty about it because she isn't even a Pixies fan, so she bought me the t-shirt.

It was pretty amazing. First time I've seen them.
They certainly have endurance. It was an unusual set-up. They did two nights in a row; this was the second. Two shows per night. 6:30 show was b-sides and rarities, 10:30 show was hits. At $40 apiece, I just went with the hits. So that's a lot of performing in 48 hours for them.
The metal detectors and bag searches were new. Good thing I left the new digital camera home. You saw glowing blue cell phone cameras all over the place in the dark though.
They struck a really good balance between not messing with the songs that we love but still making them sound not identical to the albums. Some fun horseplay between the guitarist and drummer during an extended instrumental bit. Kim Deal seemed oddly cheerful through the whole thing. Others commented on it. And they didn't do Gigantic. Who knows.
Encore was strange. They hung out on the stage and chatted with each other while everyone made noise for a while, then replayed the song they opened the show with (Wave of Mutilation), then it was over.
Opening act was the Bell-Rays. (http://www.thebellrays.com/) I'd never heard of them. My buddy described them as Jill Scott fronting The Ramones. They were fine. Energetic. She needs to work on her volume though.
I'm no good at describing music, sorry. The show was a blast. Everyone seemed quite satisfied afterwards. The band seemed to be enjoying themselves. Highly recommended.

I saw them the last time they were in California (in Irvine at the "Verizon Wireless" amphitheater, which I refuse to call it) and they were great. They started off slightly sketchy, but then quickly snowballed into a really powerful performance. Glad you liked it!

Well I just noticed something obnoxious this morning. They were handing out these postcards as you went in and I didn't stop to read it because you're going up a very crowded staircase and that would be lethal. And once I got to my seat, it was too dark. My buddy said it was something about buying a cd of the show, so I thought 'neat' and kept it. I read it this morning and you're supposed to buy a voucher at the t-shirt booth. That way you're guaranteed a recording. Otherwise, they make some extras, but they sell out. I went to the website and it didn't have any instructions for buying a recording except for with a voucher number, and there's just an error if you leave that field blank, so I emailed them for further info. Fingers crossed. That would be a nifty souvenir.
Upcoming shows:
San Francisco
San Jose
LA
Denver
Indianapolis
Cleveland
Pittsburgh
Atlanta
Raleigh
DC
Boston
I love the Pixies, but my friends don't, and it's also right after MoCCA weekend, here in NYC, so I hope that I can maybe catch them another time (knock on wood!!)

Do they play any new material at these shows or is just their old songs? Do they plan on coming out with a new album? I'm out of the loop on the whole Pixies deal.

Yep, I saw them this year in Detroit. You are in for a treat. They sounded great! They did a ton of songs and seemed to be really having fun. The crowd was really into it and drank up everything the Pixies dished out.

"Bam Thwok" is the only new song I've heard of. They may or may not stay together and record more new stuff. AFAIK, the future remains to be seen.

They also did a cover on a Warren Zevon tribute album. It's a pretty good song, but I haven't got any idea what the original sounds like.

Ah yes, I remember hearing about that but haven't heard it yet. Thanks for reminding me - it's going on my impossibly long list before I forget again!

I've missed them three times in the last year now. The first two times, last spring, were the first two shows of the reunion tour, and sold out really quickly. They started here in the Twin Cities because Kelly Deal lived here for years after completing a rehab program at Hazeldon. Then they came back for a third show last winter, and I was too broke to see them that time. At least I got the t-shirt.
