Is Drunken Boxing really useful in a fight? It's a popular style in martial arts films and books but I dont know if anyone has actualy use it in a actual fight.

Choy Li Fut is a unique art in of itself. It relys on deception & rebound attacks as well as direct attack. I think the only thing that could neutralize it would be grappling arts.
Can it be effective in a fight? It sure can. It depends on how much training & dedication is put into it is all.

According to the movies, you have to train with it. The reason why drinking is suppose to help is because it numbs your feelings and you'll be able to push yourself further. But you have to learn to focus and control it before you fight drunk.

No alcohol is needed in training really. Just very lose & supple joints.
The "drunken" part of Choy Li Fut acttually comes from legend. The 8 Immortals meet up at a pub & drink to the point of annoyance. So annoying that it wakes up the local heraldy. They send their guards to take them out. Being so inebreatied to preform their gung-fu, the immortals inproved a whole new style & wipes out the heraldry's army like a mop.
And so Choy Li Fut was born.

I was referring to Jet Li's 1994 Hong Kong movie Last Hero In China where he dresses up like a big chicken at the end, gets drunk, and kicks ass.
