So, am I the only one who thinks that the music from THE INCREDIBLES was PERFECT?
I mean "instant classic" perfect! It doesn't sound like the music was created for this film so much as they dug through some old 60's music archives and said, "Yes! Let's make the movie around THIS!"
I don't know as much about this kind of thing (scores?) as some folks, so I'll just have fanboy-ish comments, but feel free to talk over my head on the subject and I'll just grin and occasionally ask questions. :)
So, who else was impressed?

The music was amazing. I play 3 instruments myself and can truely appreciate the work that goes into playing it.

S'funny. I was just thinking, this weekend, that the best way to appreciate something is to try to do it yourself. Once you see how challenging it is, it's easier to appreciate someone else's work in that area.
Regarding the score, it fit a certain style... and used the right instruments and just ... FIT. Grr. I wish I had the music vocab to properly express this. I'll think about it some more.

I bought it a couple weeks after I saw the movie, and it's since become a staple of my listening.
It was completely robbed at the Oscars.

I'm not sure what it was up against, but I agree that it was Oscar-caliber.

I loved it. I can't really add any more to what West said (not this early in the morning, anyway).

More superhero movie need to utilize the jazzy horn section. How much better would Spider-man would be if it had a jazzzy horn section?

Surprisingly, I can feel on that. If it's selectively dropped into this or that scene... it could've really worked. But they went the hokey route. It worked on some levels. Others, notsomuch.
The Incredibles had a score that ...ARGH... vocabulary... failing me.
It established the right tone or mood all the way through. It's like the music spoke to me in a language I didn't know I understood - and it had something to say.

I haven't heard it aside from watching the movie, and I obviously wasn't paying too close attention at the time, but from the impressions I got I didn't find it very interesting. It was a good choice of style but it never really grabbed me.

I loved the music on THE INCREDIBLES. It was a significant factor in what made the movie work so well for me. It drew upon the same vibe as some of the better action music of the 60s, such as the JONNY QUEST and GREEN HORNET themes, without being derivative. Very cool music, very appropriate to the movie, and it stands well on its own.
I agree it was robbed at the Oscars.

And don't forget the 60's Bond flicks as well.

Honestly? Giacchino's done better. Don't believe me? Listen to some of his WWII video game work.
