I'm a big fan of dark characters (as in, having some kind of literal darkness power - not as in being moody or morally ambiguous). I'm sure I'm forgetting most of them, though, so can any one add to the list? Also any recommendations for good stories featuring these characters?

Deathurge
Doorman
Specter
Cloak
Void

Some russian lady, Darkstar (?) has a darkness power. She popped up in Avengers once and a while over the years. Last I saw her was the "Kang vs. The World" storyline in Avengers vol. 3.

darkstar was a great character. she joined x-corp and was killed though. i was always partial to silhouette of the new warriors as well as black mamba.

Black Mamba definitely fits, and her powers seem pretty cool.

I can't find Darkstar or Silhouette in marveldirectory.com - any links, or descriptions of their powers?

i cant find one for silhouette. she has the power to 'melt' into shadows. for instance, if there was a shadow somewhere, she could jump into it and merge with it. she mainly used that to hide and sneak up on enemies. she had some crutches that had weaponary in them and also knew some fighting style

I have an old Marvel Team-Up Annual #2 (1972) with Spidey & The Hulk, taking on Russia's finest while a corrupt KGB agent was playin' both sides. Anywho, Spidey & Hulk had to fight Crimson Dynamo, Vangaurd, a dude with a hammer & sickle that reversed one's powers against themselves, and Darkstar (was their a fourth 'villain'? I can't recall). She controlled this 'Dark Force' which was kinda like a cross between Sue Storm's force field power and a 'zapping' blast. She could use it to attack, or hold someone within it. She could use it to fly, somehow IIRC. Now that you reminded me of this issue, it is one of the few I recall that I can't seem to find right now. Thanks a lot. I was supposed to get some sleep soon, now I probably won't. Anyone else recall this ish?

p.s. - No help from Harold re: Silhouette.

but, these links...

Several Marvel characters tapped into some mysterious energy called the darkforce. Darkstar, Black Mamba, and Blackout all wielded the darkforce in different ways. Quagmire of the Squadron Supreme series may have been using the darkforce. Shroud may have been opening a portal in the darkforce dimension.

Way, way back in the Claremont/Cockrum run, Nighcrawler gained this power as well - was discovered in that terrible Irish castle/leprechauns story, and used again in the Hellfire club story when NC & Wolverine were sneaking in through the sewers.

Dunno if he still has this power or not.

alan davis used it in excalibur but its not the same as sil's. nightcrawler can blend into the shadows but sil can go into the shadows. im not sure how to explain it correctly

Blackout it is, he died I believe during the Siege of Avengers Mansion (unless he was restored to life later. It wouldn't be the first that happened to a comic character)

Crawler disappear in shadows, Silouette merge with it.

So in order to spread a little love, a few scans of Darkstar are attached. By the way, it was just the three Russian super-heroes in the Marvel Team-Up Annual #2, and the year was 1979, not '72 as I previously typed.

Peace to all,

Harold ;)

Check out "Forces of Darkness, Forces of Light" in New Warriors #32-34 & New Warriors Annual #3 for a great big Darkforce story with just about every Marvel Universe character that uses the same "dark" energies as Cloak and Shroud and others.

Darkhawk, however, doesn't access the same dimension for his powers, like others mentioned. He unknowingly called his Darkforce Blast after the dimension before he even knew of its existence. During this New Warriors story, he decides that maybe he'll start calling it something else since there's no connection.
