Watched this one over the weekend. Visually, Dark City is an absolute gem. This is Bladerunner muliplied by a factor of 10. Seriously!
Storywise, this one reads straight out of a comic book. William Hurt, as always, delivers his role superbly but the biggest surprise of all is Keifer Sutherland. I tend to stay away from films that casts him as one of the main actors but he really pulls it off. Loved the ending and plot twist.
If you don't know what to rent, check this one out. Better than the 99% of the newly released crap anyways.

'Dark City' is 'The Matrix' for literate people.

The ending battle was fun to watch. Well done. It felt like watching two comic book characters go at it.
And Connelly looked really hot in it.
'Dark City' is 'The Matrix' for literate people.
That is the best summary I've heard of it for a long time.

Yeah, if anyone always asks me what to rent, I almost always reply with Dark City (my other reply is Clue). It's such an underrated movie, but it's so wonderfully done.
And I'm having a hard time thinking of a movie where Jennifer Connelly DIDN'T look hot in.

I wished I could've given it as good a review, but that flick was the only movie in the history of my 45 years of movie-going that I ever fell asleep on due to sheer boredom.

I wholeheartedly concur.
What a gorgeous, beautiful woman.
Good movie BTW.

matrix 2 and 3 garbage. Great music in dark city as well!

It was good. The girls were pure hotness, and the concept of the movie is awesome too. Of course, I was kind of disturbed at how easily the aliens were destroyed...

Sleeps. I liked how they would say that.

If anybody here has not seen it and is thinking of seeing it, put the movie on mute until you see Keifer Sutherland appear (about 5 minutes into the movie). Then turn up the sound. It is such a better experience!

It was the first DVD I ever purchased. Good stuff.

I honestly think that you have this statement backwards. The Matrix 2 is Dark City for literate people. They crammed a startling amount of philosophy and apocryphal religious references and concepts into the second Matrix movie. Sure, it was a flawed movie, but they really tried to make it deep and intelligent.
Dark City is a visually interesting movie, but the story and themes explored amount to little more than a lengthy episode of The Outer Limits or The Twilight Zone. There's really nothing below the surface of this movie.
I liked Dark City about as much as I like the first two Matrix movies. One time, the local gothic industrial nightclub was screening a silent version of Dark City on the big screen while playing their usual hard dance music. That was cool.

Well, from my avatar you can tell I'm a big Jennifer Connelly fan. However, I think she has really become unattractive since A Beautiful Mind. She has lost a ton of weight and she looks ill. That was what was always so damn hot about her, she had a great curvy body. Alas, it has now vanished in favour of the typical Hollywood waif look.
Dark City was the last movie I remember seeing her in where I still felt she had the whole package going on.

The Matrices tried to cover a lot of heavy philosophical ground, but the surface plot of the three movies was so ehhh that it seems smart-dumb more than anything else.

I dont know about that.
I'm a big Jennifer Connelly fan myself, and still think she's quite the looker. Check out "House of Sand and Fog". JC is still quite buxom, and attractive. She seems to go from slim, to curvy alot. Because she definately had those delicious curves in that movie.
IMO, the best feature of Jennifer Connelly is without a doubt her face. She is just soooooo beautiful. Just so very gorgeous. :)

I agree with this. I think she's one of the most beautiful people in Hollywood, even if she isn't as meaty as she used to be. Just saw the trailer for Dark Water and she looked really good.
