I just reread 1 -8 of 1602. Had a couple questions.

This is the same universe as the regular MU right? The watcher's 616 right?

Who was Clea Strange? Did she have a counterpart in the regular MU?

Where did Niccoli Fury and Rojhaz end up?

Thanks! Erik

Well, it was part of the 616 Marvel U-but now it's seperate, meaning it can continue and have its own stories.

Nicolai and Rohjaz ended up in Rohjaz's native time.

Clea Strange is indeed in the Marvel U-she's Clea, the niece of Dormammu and Dr. Strange's (ex?) wife and student.

Thank you very much for that, I [bows head in shame] have not read much Dr. Strange over the years.

Another question: Did Nicolai and Rohjaz end up in the regular 616 MU or 1602's new split universe (where the 1602 charactors can continue to have its own stories).

Thanks! Erik3

PS have we seen anything from these charactors or this universe since the last issue fo 1602?

Not yet, although I remember some buzz about a sequel. Don't recall if Gaiman's involved though.

Theres gonna be a sequel written by Greg Pak i think it will be dealing with the arrival of the colonies to the New World. No word on whether Rohjaz or Sir Nicholaus will show up. Ive also got a question about 1602 why did it end so badly?

I wouldn't say it ended badly, but as I recall, it was intended to have a real impact on mainstream marvel, but then at the last minute was decided to just be a stand alone.

Probably when they realized that Gaiman actually MEANT it when he said it would change things...

Aweosme, I CANNOT wait to pick that up. The end of 1602 was a little lacking, hopefully this will make up for it.

Thanks for the good news!

I'm not sure if 1602 had a bad ending to it, but I remember being unmoved by it. I guess I was just expecting something.....else. The sequel could be cool. I liked that Spider-man and Hulk weren't in the first series with their counterparts. I guess I'd like to see them in the second though. It somehow looses some appeal since Gaiman isn't involved, though I have no real beef with Pak. I'll give it a look.

saying the ending of 1602 was a little lacking is like saying the war on Iraq had a little affect on Middle Eastern world.

1602 was intended to be six issues, ended up being eight and probably should have been twelve in the long run. There's nothing wrong with it besides pacing really, as it starts slow, but picks up pace, then Gaiman pretty much ran out of room.

Oh yeah, and the thing shipped damn late as well.

But it reads well as a prelude to this upcoming series, I think.

12 issues would have meant a bunch of more setup with little payoff. this thing shouldnt have seen print. ok im being a little harsh the big fight at Count Otto Von Dooms castle was great, the reveal of Rohjaz being steve rogers from the future and the cause of the end of the universe was great and a few other twists and turns such as the handling of the fantastic four and black widow turning on murdock but overall this whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth and being as this is the first work of Gaiman that i read after hearing years of praise bestowed upon him it was a bit of a letdown.

Glad to hear that you at least enjoyed the best parts of the series, heh.

Go get a tpb or two of Gaiman's Sandman, it should wash away the bad taste. I recommend either starting at the beginning or skipping ahead to either "Dream Country" or "Season of Mists".

If it's going to be any consolation to anybody at all, the sequel was intended to be six issues (well, according to the solicitations, anyway) but Greg Pak said it's now five-issues, though he's hoping that it'll continue beyond the initial five.

For info on Marvel 1602: New World, check out this interview with Pak (see http://www.newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34036 )

If I'm not mistaken, Virginia Dare doesn't have a counterpart in the regular Marvel Universe. Gaiman used the name because Virginia Dare was the first colonist child born in the New World.

You're not alone in seeing her similarities to Snowbird, though.

The similarities are certainly there, but as you say, it relates to the true story of the colony that was found disappeared in Roanoke Virginia in 1602 after being unheard from in some time. Virginia was said to have been born able to change into a white doe, just like in the mini series, and this is entirely taken from historical myth and legend and has no connection to Cap's time travel (meaning has no true MU counterpart.) In fact, Gaiman only used characters that had already appeared around the time of Cap's revival in the 60's and no others, no Wolverine, or any other popular characters that came later, and no Snowbird.

I owned the whole series for a year or so before just recently reading it. I was actually very impressed. I enjoyed it a lot. It's dissapointing to see that Neil isn't doing the sequal. There's still more Marvel work in his future though, isn't there?

no Wolverine

this is actually probably one of the biggest reasons why i enjoyed this so much.

thanks for the clearing up over Virginia Dare
