New Defenders......Who would you want!!!!

Well we've had misassembled and like it or not we've got a new avengers. If marvel was to start a new defenders series (not the comedy styled mini thats due) who would you like to see in the team??

I'de like a darker more anti-hero team along the traditions of the original defenders.

Moon knight
Omen (from legion of night)
Darkhawk
Blade

This would give some new characters and b-listers the chance to shine and i think the mix of alien, magic and occult characters would give a great original defenders vibe.

In the tradition of New Avengers, I would keep at least two characters that are widely associated with the original concept,but I would go for Doctor Strange and Namor.

I honestly did try and think of some ladies to join the crew but I thought more than 8 characters would be too much and I honestly like all these characters. The only compromise I made was with Vengeance, only because I was gonna go with Ghost Rider but I would prefer to see him in his own series. Quicksand would be great though. Last I heard she was a villain. Have to admit I stopped reading comics back in '92 only re-started recently.

I know Mr. Cronin is sighing because I've posted a team like this every time a "Create a Defenders team!" thread pops up. Still, here's my concept:

I would have Dr. Strange create a "society of shadows" -- an alliance of the most powerful loners in the Marvel Universe. No, these people don't like each other but they understand that they have to work together (for at least this one adventure) if but for self-preservation and to ensure their own agendas can continue.

Even with such a team, you need some people to be in the team consistently. So Strange creates a working unit:

* Valkyrie -- field leader
* Ghost Rider
* Cloak and Dagger
* Devil-Slayer

Strange occasionally will join for missions, but he will stay in the background as a reinforcement.

As far as the rest of the "society," keep in mind they have their own agendas and circumstances that will keep them busy. Someone may not come because, well ... they are loners by nature. Someone may come to advance his or her own agenda, which means he or she may have to be kept in check by the other Defenders.

One of more of these other members of the "society" may show up for an adventure. The others are:

* Adam Warlock
* Namor
* Doctor Doom
* The Hulk
* Blade
* Moondragon
* The Silver Surfer
* Spider-Man
* Starhawk, more specifically a Marvel Universe version of The Guardians of The Galaxy character.

I'd merge the idea with that of the Midnight Sons and have a constant roster of:

Prelude's New Defenders Core Cast
Dr. Strange - What's a Defenders team without the master of mystic arts? You gotta have him.

Hulk - Because Hulk is a loner in a "non-team," he fits into the design of the Defenders almost perfectly.

Namor - I've never been a big fan of the arrogant Atlantean. He needs to stop thinking about the Invisible Girl and start thinking about finding better threads. But he was one of the original Defenders and should be included.

Valkyrie - I've always had a soft spot for this Defender. If she's not around, I'd be disappointed.

Prelude's New Defenders Guest Appearances
Daredevil - I just want to see Daredevil work with other superheroes every once in a while.

Ghost Rider - There are certain characters that I feel don't deserve their own monthly, but I would still like to see them occasionally. Ghost Rider is definitely one of those characters.

Moon Knight - Verminous mentioned Moon Knight in the original post and I thought to myself, "Why not?" He was recently featured in Marvel Team-Up and it would be nice to see more of this guy.

Punisher - The gun-toting vigilante isn't exactly a team player, which is exactly the reason why I want to see how he would play with other Defenders.

Silver Surfer - I would love to see the Surfer participate along side his old friends in a battle or two.

My picks:

Doctor Strange: I see him in sort of a PRofesser X role guiding the team and participting when nessecary.

Storm - She has the power and leadership abilities to lead this team,; also I think it would be nice to take her out of the X-Men for awhile so that she could enteract with different characters and the X-Men writers can work on other characters, and give them a chance to shine.

Namorita - I've never can see Namor as a member of a team for a regular basis, Namorita on the other has been a New Warrior for a long time, and I think it's time see moved for the Warriors to a more "grown-up" team (hey Nightwing and Arsenal both left the Titans eventually).

She-Hulk - She's a fun character and now that she's no longer an Avenger I think she would work well this team, plus it'd be good to have someone with a law degree around.

Nova - like Namorita I think it's time he "graduated" to the big leagues; I mean Nova is Marvel's Green Lantern he should be a member of the Avengers and if they aren't going to use them then I think this would be a good place for him.

Jubilee - She'd bring youth to the team and it could be played as her striking out on her after the events of her mini-series to find where she belongs and what she wants to do with her life; also I think that she and She-Hulk would make a good time.

Then I'd have a rotating slott for particular missions.
