I met John Romita Jr over the weeked at Free Comic Book Day at Atomic Comics here in Phoenix. He told me he is going to be working with Stan "the Man Lee" on Fantastic Four the End. I have to say I am really excited by this one. Stan working with JRjr is going to be so sweet.
He did not have a time table for it, but he confirmed it is in the works.

Cool!
They should have gotten JRSR though... I am not a huge fan or JRJR

Stan Lee - Awesome
JRJR - not so cool ... not so cool at all
I was super excited when I saw Stan Lee on Fantastic Four ... then, I opened the message and saw JRJR attached to the project. It'd be way cooler with someone who could ape Kirby's style, I'd think. Something in the lines of the "World's Greatest Magazine" mini series from a few years back.

JRjr is the man. I can't wait to see his rendition of the Thing.
It would be cool though if JRsr would ink it though.

I will be extremely excited if this is true.

JRjr is the man.
Maybe in the Romita Jr household... but artistically I can think of several that are better.

anyways, im not necessarily happy about this announcement.
first off jrjr has never done anything ff related... that i can think of anyways.
they shoulda got someone who worked on the series before. as far as mimicking kirby's style, they coulda got ladronn who has a pretty much modern take on kirby's style, plus i think he did a ff annual before.
but the man back on ff? on the surface, thats cool. but whens the last time he wrote something good? its the same situation as claremont on xmen the end.

Think back to his work on Thor a few years ago. It was pretty much Kirby-riffic.

I love JRJR's older stuff (on Uncanny X-Men), but his run on ASM seemed very bland to me a lot of the time.
Awesome to see Stan writing again, though!

I am not a fan of JRJR. He was cool way back when on FF, but then I saw his work on Punisher War Zone and that book with Punisher, Wolverine and Ghost Rider, and it really turned me off. Even his recent work isn't all that. His dad is much better. Stan writing? Sounds cool, but it is kinda scary. How was those DC books he did a few years ago? The "Just Imagine....." books? And before that, when was the last time he did anything? I dunno, it could be cool though. Just the fact that Stan Lee's doing FF again after a bazillion years will probably make me check it out. But that JRJR art on the other hand may turn me off on it. We'll see when ever it comes out.

JRJR is one of my favorite artists, but I agree he might not be the best fit for a FF comic. There's a lot of guys I'd prefer before him. But the trend of The End series so far has been one of the definitive writer of the characters with an artist not usually associated with them, so JRJR sort of fits.

*Ethan Van Sciver? Naa he got a lot of help with the coloring on Rebirth. SEriously his work is way too stiff. With all the great things JR did in his career you would compare Sciver to him?
*FF-era John Byrne maybe. Clearly not now.
*Mazuchelli is a whole different game. It`s like comparing say...alex Maleev to Alan Davis
*I don`t think that DEodato, Aparo, J. Lee, Epting, Bachalo, Larroca, G.FRank are better. Certainly not Epting, his art on Cap is rather limited.
*Ordway, Cheug, modern-day Perez, Gibbons are not better
*Dillon and Chaykin like Mazuchelli, too different to compare.
*Greg Land draws beautifully but very stiff. Photo-references-as-art do not impress me.
*Alan Davis rules but what JR does is more fluid.
*Jimminez, ha ah don`t make me laugh, he`s like Van Sciver, very stiff, not even in the same league as JR.
*Balent? Give me a break! The dude that does the sex comics with pumpkins?
*Maleev well we have to see if he would capable to draw something other than talking heads first
*Wieringo, not a chance. Let`s see what can make a story more convincing: Galactus drawn by Wieringo or drawn by JR. Case closed.
*As for Porter and Kolins, I like them but they`re not "there" yet. I see Porter being a futur a JR. His work on JLA was pretty good.

You clearly haven`t seen him draw cosmic stories, he can top Kirby.

I most certainly have seen him draw cosmic stories. He just wouldn't be my first choice for a FF comic. Thing would look sweet, but I've never been overly fond of the way he draws pretty women.
