This is the best book featuring Anya to date.

First a shout out to the creative team:

Avery and Cruz: I'm sorry for any negative thing I've ever said about you both, this issue has more than made up for any thing. Fiona, your wright gets better and deeper every issue. Cruz, Your art is growing on me and I like it, every panel was great with alot to chew on.

Jeannie Lee: Great job with the colors, but I'm a eighteen year old guy and I'm elegiac to all the pink and purple.

Olazaba: Inks were incredible as usual. Good job.

Mark Brooks: Another stunning cover, your the man. As long as Mark has something to do with this book than I'll be reading it, rain or shine!

Great job to the whole creative team! Thanks, you all blew this one out of the park.

Now for the review. I will not go very deep into detail in hopes that some of you decide to read it for your selves.

The first seen in the book takes place in a coffee shop with Gil, Anya's papa, talking to one of his associates about the events of the previous issue. It is very interesting and, even though it is a serious conversation, they manage to poke a little fun at some of the books flaws tastefully. The result is that Gil has a duty to find the truth about the wasps and Arana despite the dangers that come with his job. This realization is a nice parallel to a revelation that Anya will have in the next scene.

We find Anya on top of a neo-gothic building musing about her problems when Spidey pops up. It turns out that he actually tracked her down to see if she was on the up and up since he had heard many rumors about her. The conversation between them is solid and heartfelt, this meeting was not a gimmick to sale books as much as it was a logical step in Anya's character growth. Out of this conversation we finally get what the book, Arana, and the readers have needed from the beginning: a reason to do what she does. Spidey explains his whole power and responsibility thing and Anya picks up that she has been acting without a solid reason since issue one. She wants to protect her fancily but realizes that she can not do that defensively, instead she must be the agressor and take out any threat before it can strike. This gives us something to hope for, this book will not be about protecting the weak, it will be about detroying evil, and that's just how I like it.

The first half of the book was all about characterization ( which was both great and interesting) but the second half was about fists. There were two major fights that in sued, I won't descirbe them in detail, you will have to see them for your self. I will say that we haven't even passed the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Arana's power, Amun got it handed to himself pretty badly!

This is my first review so it might not be the best. Hope you enjoyed it any way!

I thought it was great that they referenced Spidey's adventure on the Astral Plane. Also some great development of Araņa and her relationship with the hunter part of herself. I'm genuinely intrigued by where this is going.
