View Full Version : How many CBR posters do you know in "real life"?

As I read thru the different forums, it's obvious that some (or maybe a lot) of the people here know each other in "real life" i.e. names, locations, families, jobs, families, phone #s, etc. So I guess my question is - how many do you know? And how did you meet if it's an interesting story...

Ummm... maybe two dozen? Almost all of them from the San Diego Comics Con; though if we count phone conversations then I can add Papergirl and Mike Smash.

I've met Paul Newell and Pol Rua in real life. In fact, I see Pol every week.

I've met DarlingNikki several times now and her hubby Dex once (she lives in my city, woot!). JustinD and his gf Kristina came by our place to visit when in Atlanta, and we also met West3man and his gf Victoria out for a couple of meals when they were in town.
Perry Holley and his wife live here, and we were friends before CBR. Heck, Perry *introduced* me to CBR!
I've met Papergirl in Orlando when we were on vacation, along w/some of her friends down there. Met Jonah, Jim MacQuarrie and wife Teri, and JadeDragon (Patrick Blaine) at our hotel for drinks when we were in L.A.
Pretty much everyone else I've met in person was at Dragoncon: Bert, Michael Pullman (formerly Writerboy), Loren, Azangel, Jasper (who's also visited w/us a couple of times outside the con), Quarterwolf, Ragnarok, Watcher, Jade69Legolady, Ronald Bryan, and some other folks I'm brainfarting on right now because I have a headache and need to go to bed. Argh.
Also, except for my three year old son, my whole family posts here: me, hubby BubbaJoWants, daughter Chibistarjumper, daughter DarkBlade and her husband Tadhg.

I've met most of the local CBRers.
Greg and Julie Hatcher and Cei-U!, I consider good friends. I've also met MarkAndrew, SOGG, Rob Allen, Howyadoin, K'Nort, DarlingNikki and her husband Dex, Scott Shaw!, Gail Simone, DarkBlade, the whole MacQuarrie clan and a couple others that escape me right now.
On the phone, I've talked to Fenris, Papergirl, JeffreyWKramer and ragnarok_2012.
Lots of good people on CBR....

There are plenty of people on CBR with whom I would like to converse on the phone. I actually gave my phone number to a former poster who shall remain nameless* but never spoke to them.

(Rallura and BB's wedding, and, uh...crap *lists* Ronlad Bryan was there, Quarterwolf was there, Jadie! was there, Mattbib was there, Tranceptor, Mistrust, Cosmic Cat, Sir Tim, Tadgh, Rin (Darkblade), I didn't get to see morts, because he just HAD to leave the day before I got there! Yarrrgh!)
Oh, and I talked to Fabian on the phone. Twice. Because he was bored.

I've met 47 CBRians.
Well, if stalking them and filming their every move counts as meeting.
Otherwise- I've only actually met one CBR person in real life. And he doesn't know we've met. Weird, huh?

I know Gaz in real life. One of my University pals.
Met him on the Uni Freshers week, he was queing up to see "Hypno-Dog" (a local dog that hypnotises people) or someting and I noticed that he had a Forbidden Planet bag in his hand.
For the first 2-3 weeks of me knowing him I did not actually know his name :( So I kept trying to trick him into telling me his name again by indirectly asking him questions like "uuhh, what's your email address?" (knowing that the university email adresses incorporate the student's name) and he said "Well you know my name so you should know my email address" and then I said "of course I know your name lol! I meant your normal email address, not the student one!"
Eventually found out his name when I saw him write it down on a sign up sheet for a class :o
Bet he didn't know that :p

Well, let's see. I'm going to take the cheap way out and just say "everyone who's been to the San Diego convention between 1999-2005," or it would take me hours to type up otherwise.
Apart from that... as Mike said, we enjoy seeing him and Cei-U, they're more or less neighbors. In fact we enjoy everyone we see at the periodic CBR Northwest gatherings: Mike, Kurt, howyadoin, Rob Allen, and as of the last one, knorth and Tom Orz. We missed DarlingNikki and her husband that time but caught up with them the next day at Emerald City Con, along with Gail. Here (http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=42349) are Nikki's photos from that occasion.
Let's see. Darkblade and Engine were both in Julie's and my wedding, and F. Chong Rutherford, the entire MacQuarrie clan, and Mike Smash and Cei-U showed up for it, as well. And speaking of weddings, Julie and I were the only CBR folks at Brandon and Nicole's wedding.
We spent an evening with Papergirl at Children's Hospital last winter; she was here visiting her niece-in-all-but-blood, who was very ill and seeing a specialist there. Not the happiest occasion but we were glad to get to see her and hopefully provide a little moral support.
And we have caught Punchy on tour, as well as koop. Those two are practically gimmes. But it's always fun to see them and they are both very generous about sharing their respective 'backstage' privileges with CBR.
I think that's it. I know I will forget someone -- I always do -- but that should be pretty much everyone.

Just two, Punchy and Tricksterpup. I met Punchy the usual way, when he was in town for a show. Tricksterpup was kind of a surprise. He is part of a large extended group of friends and acquaintances that I know here in the Twin Cities, most of whom I met in a vampire larp. I may or may not have mentioned CBR to him while drinking coffee with vampires one night, or maybe Tricksterpup found CBR on his own. At some point, I noticed his posting name in the Avengers forum here and recognized it as being almost identical to his email address that I had see many times, so I sent him a private message here to confirm his identity.

I've met a ton of CBRers at cons, sometimes in groups of ten or thirty. So I think we should make it a rule that you have to have your CBR posting name attached to you when at an event with other posters.
All of your CBR posting names since some people change and change in a futile search for a cool posting name like mine.

Well, the only one I really know is Citrus-Man, and I've known him over 12 years (we were college roommates at one point).
But I've had pie with the MacQ clan, then dinner with Jim MacQ and his daughter at Fabian's, so I met him, too (thanks again for the "college professor" discount, bro). At Wonder Con this year I met EZMohr, and had dinner with Brandon, Nicole, and Tages.
Everybody that I've met has been friendly and generally cool. Someday I will make it to SDCC to verify that it's just the general rule for CBR folks.
Also someday I will make the half-hour drive to meet Puma. I don't really have a good excuse for not doing that already.

Well Bouncing Boy and I have been good friends for years before I even started posting here.
At SDCC 01 I met Loren, Tadgh/Trix, Darkblade, Greg Hatcher, Slick, Al(istair), the Engine (where is he? I think I may still have an old nametag he left at SDCC), Fenris, Punchy, Brandon and Nicole Hanvey, Sir Tim Drake, Mr Blond, Ramona Juanita, Azangel (briefly), Jonah (also briefly), Buried Alien, Fly, Cei-U, Dan Apodaca, The MacQ clan, Scott Shaw! (briefly), and a couple other people whose names I can't remember: one was a half-asian girl from NY who was/is into weezer, and the other was a guy from Mass who stacked boxes for David sunflower seeds at the time. (zilch is this you?) oh and I met Gail Simone, too, she is very very nice.
and as howy mentioned, I've done dial-a-shot with him and I have spoken to Rallura on the phone, and MissTrust.
