For a french project, I've gotta memorize a French song or poem. Since I think poetry suits this kinda thing more, and what little french music I've heard is a bit to risque for the class, can anybody recommend some good pieces of French poetry? Either online, or on a fairly common book that I can find at the local library/bookstore.

This link (http://www.pierdelune.com/prevert1.htm) will take you to the text (with an English translation) of a poem by Jacques Prévert. Prévert is a member of the surrealist movement, and his poetry is often absurd and amusing.

"La pêche à la baleine", sung by the quartet "Les frères Jacques", is one of the first songs I learned as a kid.

I hope it helps!

Yeah, we did something of his in class. The one about how he loves a girl that he can't find anywhere, and that he needs chains or something. It was actually pretty good.
