Because apparently I don't know well enough to GO TO SLEEP right now, I thought I'd wish everybody a Happy Free Comic Book Day to you all!
It's a particularly special one for me, this year, as tomorrow I will have offically become a self-published independant comic book creator!
My co-horts, the group I have for whatever reason dubbed Callithump, have joined together to create a 28 page ad-free black & white (with full-color cover by yours truly and Daren Kinnison) comic called I ONLY HATE. --AND WE'RE GIVING IT AWAY! Because we're crazy and, apparently suddenly made of money. I dunno. The magic of Free Comic Book Day compells us to entertain!
The entire team will be on-hand at my local comic shop to sign and sketch and be charming. I have written two stories for it, drawing one of them myself which stars my characters Skid & Toby who Pipeline regulars might remember from my contribution to the Pipeline 5th Anniversary.
You can check out an early version of the cover HERE, (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/Maukingbird/ionlyhate0.jpg) as well as some other rambly details HERE (http://www.livejournal.com/users/maukingbird/185951.html#comments).
The idea is to have this all available on the web at some point, soon, so fret not that you miss out on this very short print-run. ^_^
I hope everybody has a great day, today, and be sure to tell all your friends, neighbors, family, enemies, pets, landlords and congressmen to check out Free Comic Book Day at your friendly neighborhood comic retailer!

Congrats to you Mauk!
And a Happy FCBD to you too.
I'll be leaving in about 45 minutes to my LCS. I'm spending the day there helping out the owner.

Congrats, Tracie! Sounds like your day should be a fun one. And of course I remember those two little guys. Why, I own original art featuring them! ;-)
I was going to head over to the Hawthorne High School for their second annual con -- Walter Simonson is there -- but I did a little running around this morning and came home and crashed right afterward. One of these days, the doc will figure out what's wrong with me, and I'll be partying like a mad man again.
Happy FCBD, everyone!

HOLEY COW!!!!!
TRACIE!!! COngratulations!!!  :)
I had no idea you were making a comic book!
I don't think I'll be able to get it at my store (unless you ship some to Midtown in NYC) but will the book be made available for purchase online? *hopes this is so*

Congrats on the comic Tracie!
I stopped by the LCS just to see what the buzz was. Normally I don't take any free comics on FCBD, I wait a few weeks at least, because I'd rather see them go to a potential reader AND buyer and maybe a new comics fan, but my LCS guy knew there was one FCBD comic I really wanted and he saved a copy for me and insisted I take it. But then, he still had leftover comics from last year that he was also giving away for free, so he knows the area well enough to know that one comic either way is not going to make much of a difference.
When I got there the store was packed with about 50/50 regulars and newbies. And most of the newbies were at the very least browsing after they got their free comic. So at my LCS at least, I'd call today a success. :)

Congrats to Tracie on joining the Creator Club! Us outsiders will look at you with a combination of envy and longing... So have fun! Yay!
I got a handful of FCBD books from the local shop. Have read the Oni "Hysteria"/"Sharknife" flipbook -- I was already sold on the first, but this freebie has now sold me on the second. Have read the Top Shelf "Owly" book -- immensely cute as usual. Looking forward also to the AdHouse "Superior Showcase" (more indie superhero short stories in the vein of "Project Superior") and "Comics Festival" (a medley of Canadian goodness put together by the folks at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival).

I got some Free Comics TODAY from the comic shop (wasn't able to get to the shop on Saturday).
The free comics I got were:
Bone Sharps, Cowboys, and Thunder Lizards: The only free comic I've read completly. The art in this is VERY good (the cover is very eye catching and so is the title), but the "story" seemed to go nowhere. It was kind of interesting, but I doubt I'll check out the full verison. Still, liked the art and I liked the behind the scenes look at the art too!
Johnny Raygun: YES ANOTHER JOHNNY RAYGUN FREE COMIC! I was first introduced to Johnny Raygun on last year's Free Comic Book day. Since then, I've only been able to get one non-free issue of it (and liked it too. Just haven't been able to get to the comic book store as much as like). I haven't yet read the Johnny Raygun free comic, but its next! Definitly! It looks really good!
Marvel Adventures: What can I say? I'm a Spidey fan! Haven't read this yet, but I did scan it and it has a cool "How to Make Comics" thing in the back of the issue! Prob a comic more for kids, but what the hey! Its free! And its Spidey!
Star Wars: I can't resist Star Wars! I had to get this one!! The art looks really good. Hopefully the story will be too!
Mortal Coils: To be honest, I have no idea what this is..but the cover looked interesting so I decided to pick it up! I scaned inside and it looked interesting. Looks like it has serveal different stories in it! Hope its good!
Oh and I also picked up three regular (not free) comics:
Savage Dragon #121: I missed an issue here (120). Hopefully next time I get to the shop I can get it. This issue was good btw.
Invincible #0: Only 50 cents! Hadn't picked this up, because I hadn't been to the shop in awhile! This was really good, although it did spoil a couple of things for me in the regular issues (which I'm not up to date on..). Btw, the comic store guy had my Invincible Vol. 4 TPB in but....I couldn't afford to get it today. :( Hopefully I'll be able to get it later this month!
Amazing Spiderman #519: I've missed a few issues of this (prob more then a few), so I didn't know how certain things came to be in the issues, but I did like the issue. JMS had a really interesting story here and the art is still really good.
Anyway, I'm really happy with the free comics (and the ones I payed for). I hope to read the rest of my free comics soon!

" Hopefully I'll be able to get back to the comic shop later this month to get that Invincible Vol. 4 tpb and maybe Green Lantern #1 and JMS on Fantastic Four. At least gotta get that Invincible tpb! "

I got a few of the free comics in my weekly DCBS package that arrived yesterday. I think I got the SW book, a Batman book, the Marvel book, and 1-2 others. I didn't make it to FCBD on Satruday as the weather here in Boston was quite monsoon-ish and I was hung over for most of the day.
However I've been told that there are still plenty of books to pick through at the shop, so I'm all set!
