View Full Version : Help from all Comic book enthusiasts!!!
Hello there,
I am a newbie to this forum! Conan the Barbarian comics have been my absolute favorite since I was 5. Anyways...I really, really, really, hope you can answer a question for me.
I remember one of my first Conan the Barbarian (Volume I series 1970-198?) comic books. In it, there was a small battle between Conan and this female sorcerer. The sorcerer I think was wearing a purple robe and instead of hands, she shot out green snakes that tangled Conan. Also in this comic book there was a scene where Conan comes across a basement or dungeon. There are several purple blobs with tentacles just laying on the floor. Conan tries to sneak past them or something and one of them grabs him?
Sorry if this is stupid to ask, but I have been trying to look for this comic for a long time, and I can't figure out which one it is. Has anyone come across one with these scenes in them? I am to believe this one lies somewhere between Conan the Barbarian #69-232, but am not 100% sure.
I have started to ask big comic collectors this question and so far no luck. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the board!
Purple-clad sorceresses are unfortunately a dime a dozen in old Conan books, but I'll take a look for that particular story. It sounds like it's from the long line of generic stories that separated the Roy Thomas from the Jim Owsley run (from #117 to about #180). (What doesn't help us is that during that period, the covers had little to do with the inside story).
Cheers,
- Ben
Thanks Ben for the prompt reply and trying to help me out! You know what...it might be #117, because the creature on the cover looks alot like the "purple" creature I remember. I can't get a hold of that issue, so I don't know for sure.
Other than that, I was thinking of it being #72. Once again, can't get a hold of that issue.

You might try the GCD -- link here-- (http://www.comics.org) and though you said the cover's no help, scanning through the cover gallery and issue summaries might trigger something.
As it happens I've been on a SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN hunt on eBay the last few weeks and I've also seen a great many of the regular CONAN comics up for sale, often in lots for very cheap. I've been passing on them because I was always a SAVAGE SWORD guy, but there are some real deals to be had. Worth looking.

#117 is a possibility; in it, Conan wanders a magical labyrinth where he meets what seems to be his mother. I think that she may turn out to be a monster with tentacles for hands, but it's really been a while. (Her garment is likely to have been tan colored rather than purple anyway). I'll give it a look this evening.
Wow! This forum is great! You guyz have been a huge help. Thanks again.
Greg, definately appreciate the link to GCD. Didn't know about this one and its great! I did try what you said about looking at the covers, but nothing just comes to mind, Argh! Another site that I found is milehighcomics.com
Not only do they list every conan comic made, but they also show the cover and sometimes the first 3 pages! Just type what you are looking for in the Internet Store search engine and volla!
Ben, you might be right, maybe it was a tan robe or cloak. I'm not sure where I am getting this "purple" image from, but for some reason it sticks in my head. Thanks a ton for checking this for me!
I think I've found it! I received a post at another forum. Looks like it should be CTB #117. Thanks to all for helping me with this! Cheers!

And here I was so happy to have found it!
Anyhoo, glad you found what you wanted. Here are a few scans from issue #117: Conan's mom with snakes for arms, and the purple tentacled things.
(Your memory didn't trick you: there was a purple-clad sorceress in the story).
Cheers!
