I know that the majority of people ignore Paul Jenkin's Hellblazer run anyway, but something has always confused me.
John gave up Nergal's demon blood in the "Critical Mass" story, and it's now in Demon John's body. Then he felt less than 100%, so he went out and porked Ellie, and all of a sudden he has something "demonic" about him once again, although it wasn't really explained.
So officially, does John have demonic blood, some nebulous evil aura, or just some supernatural stank on his hang low?

I believe that sleeping w/ Ellie was like damning his soul (she was a Succubus). An equivalent to having Demons blood, but not actually having Demons blood.
No supernatural powers, aura or anything like that - just his balance and residency in the universe was set to the way he was before.

I'd been wondering that myself, as Carey's run has mentioned Constantine still having the demon blood a few times. I can only speculate that JC's deal with God at the end of Jenkins' run must have reset everything, including the blood. Also, the effects of eating Bran the Blessed's head seem to have been overturned as Straff's death didn't cause Great Britain to explode or anything.

Count me among those who do! As far as I'm concerned, Jenkins is right up there with Ennis as the best Constantine writer ever.

He also sold his soul to the devil the old-fashioned way at the very end of Jenkins' run.
So officially, does John have demonic blood, some nebulous evil aura, or just some supernatural stank on his hang low?
My guess? It's up to the current writer and always will be.
No big deal anyway... Given his past, it would be no wonder if John perpetually retained some demonic stench or something...
Cheers!
