I haven't been posting much lately, but I want to start a few threads on topics I am in to.
PAD on Spidey. It really is old-school time for Peter David. Back on Hulk. Rumors of more Madrox or X-Factor, and now back to Spider-Man his first title. Personally the House of M (similiar to Infinite Crisis) has made me uninterested in most of the super-hero comics I get. But Pad on Spider-Man is enough to keep me reading.

As I'm not a fan of the current direction/art on ASM, PAD + Ringo + Spidey has me super excited!
Kevin - not sure if you've seen this or not, but there is a lively debate going on at Mike Wieringo's blog about whether or not he should go with a traditional Romita Sr. look to Spidey or if he should put his own stamp on it.
Ringo's blog (http://www.mikewieringo.com/html/Blog.htm)
It's been pretty fun reading all of the responses with various pros (including J. Scott Campbell, Scott Kurtz, Kurt Busiek & Cully Hammer among others) chiming in as well.

Yeah, I dropped Amazing before Sins Past (or whatever it was called) and no Jenkins on Spectacular means I dropped that (and skipped the issues he didn't do), dropped Millar's Spider-Man (with no interest in the new team) and I missed the annoucement of Waid doing Spidey (which would have been a strong maybe in my book). So I was planning no Spider-Man comics for the first time in a while.
PAD changed my mind.
That blog was great. My favorite artists of late have been Romita Jr. (and he puts his own style for sure, not like Ditko or Romita Sr.) and Buckingham (who does a Romita Sr. crossed with Giffen's early work IMO). So I seem to waver. I tend to like Ringo's more retro take, but I don't mind his other take either, so I guess I will be pleased either way. I am looking forward to that book!

I'm ALL about this. I know, that's a shocker. :p
I just read the most recent issues of ASM, the last PPSSM, and MK Spidey, and I loved them all! Spidey is doing well right now!

A. I'm more excited about PAD coming to Spidey than I am about anything else in comics (as of 4:06 pm 4/29/05). I loved his PPSSM issues, and reread them to this day. Between this and Hulk, the blow of losing Fallen Angel has lessened for me.
B. This means more monthly Spidey for me! Yay!
C. I liked 'Ringo's blog alot. Thanks for posting it Trip. Personally, I like the Spidey on the right.
D. Patricia. Trouble. You. Deep.

I totally agree - the one on the right is the better of the two versions. As I mentioned in my post on Ringo's blog, I first started reading Amazing Spider-man around the time that Todd McFarlane started penciling the book so his big eyes, crazy webs, gangly, able to bend in crazy ways version will always be my favorite interpretation of the character.
Didn't PAD also write some issues of Web of Spider-man at some point as well? It's hard to remember but I have this image of a cover (probably penciled by Alex Saviuk) of Jim Salicrup (or was it PAD?) as a photographer and MJ sitting on a bed in lingerie...

I think that I just answered my question - a quick search at MHC shows that it was Web of Spiderman #42 (http://www.milehighcomics.com/cgi-bin/backissue.cgi?action=bibliography&issue=94711729058%2042) that I was thinking about.
I'm amazed that of all the Web of Spider-man covers, this is the one that I remember the most. You know what really sucks? If I was to jump 10 years into the future and go through the same search of books being published today, I don't think that I would be able to recall one of the generic portrait Spidey covers that Marvel has placed on the books over the past 3~4 years.

Strangely, Tracie has conflicted emotions about this. For all intents and purposes, I should be VERY happy with this and I'm sure once I've actually read the book I'll be totally in love with it, but... I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO looking forward to Mark writing the book. Like, to an INSANE degree. Nothing could've been more perfect to me than Waid and 'Ringo doing Spidey monthly. Waid's departure was just a HUUUUUGE blow to me. I'm thrilled, however, that Mike is staying around (his SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN run with Todd Dezago is one of my absolute FAVORITE runs, and Mike's really my favorite Spidey artist). PAD's on something of a probation with me, truth be told, after taking CAPTAIN MARVEL too dark for me in his second volume and FALLEN ANGEL left me pretty cold, sadly. His return on HULK has been fantastic, though... MADROX was wonderful... I think I was just sobered by the fact that maybe not every single PAD book was going to work for me, when previously I had thought the man could do no wrong after falling in love with his INCREDIBLE HULK, X-FACTOR, SUPERGIRL, SPYBOY and the like.
...I dunno, I'm just crazy. It's going to be great, I'm going to LOVE Mike's Spidey and I'm sure PAD's gonna turn in some really wonderful and fun stuff.
Just... If Mark had to cut his workload, why not just cut CITY OF HEROES? :( He owes me a Spider-Man comic!

Tracie, your feeling about Mark is my feeling about PAD. And vice versa.
I loved Mark's work on FF and Empire. But his Flash left me cold. And his LOSH and Cap were/are merely ok. So his Spider-Man had me thinking that I would give it a shot.
PAD I am sold on.

Kevin and I are like two sides of the same coin. Yin and Yang. He's tepid about Waid, I'm tepid about PAD... He's apathetic over this summer's movie fare, I'm delirious about them!

I'm sure Waid's Spidey would have been good, but I think that PAD's Spidey will be GREAT. PAD just has the right sense of humor and writing style for Spidey. Look at his Captain Marvel stuff. :)
I might have checked out Waid's Spidey book...but PAD's Spidey book...I'm there! Its should be alot of fun!
I really hope they keep the title too! 'Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman'. hehehe.

" I definitly have to read PAD's current Hulk run when it gets to trade! I hate missing it. Heck, there's alot of comics I hate missing right now. Man, I need a job. lol! "

And on those occasions when Tracie and I agree about something it behooves everyone to stand up and notice because we are never wrong.
