There is a 5 volume set of Spirited Away manga based on the movie. I bought the first volume a couple of weeks ago and was charmed by it. What a fantastic read. I ordered the 5 volume set from Amazon shortly after reading the first volume I liked it so much.
I found out later the panels were developed from clips form the movie.
What a great idea. Why aren't more anime or other animated features translated into comics?

Why aren't more anime or other animated features translated into comics?I guess they're just very selective because there's probably not that huge of a market for things like that. But those Spirited Away ones are nice though, aren't they; I have them in the original Japanese, along with the Region 1 anime and the soundtrack.
CMX is doing an Appleseed (http://dccomics.com/cmx/?action=on_sale&i=3685) "movie book."
(I didn't read the original manga because the art didn't appeal to me, but I enjoyed the anime. And when Geneon releases it I'll get it along with the movie book and the soundtrack. I don't expect the CMX Appleseed movie book to be as good as the ones for Spirited Away though, of course.)
Tokyopop, also, of course, has an entire cine-manga (http://www.tokyopop.com/books/cinemanga.php) line; Akira is included in that... And they're doing a three-volume set for the original three Star Wars (http://www.starwars.com/episode-iv/bts/publishing/news20050302.html) films; followed by a three-volume set for the prequel trilogy.
I'm not sure if any of these will be as good as the Spirited Away ones, though.

A quick aside on the music front: Tokyopop also did a cine-manga (http://www.icv2.com/articles/news/5033.html) for Linkin Park's 'Breaking the habit (http://www.mtv.com/music/video/index.jhtml?_lpvid=31503)' music video; I have that, and Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002IQM2K/104-5619545-5958354?v=glance) has it...

There's a six or seven-chapter manga based on the first Naruto movie.
I have no idea if it's any good or not, because I've never read it, but it is out there.
