I know a lot of people say that Batman probably has the best villians but who are your personal favorites? Anyone, past or present, doesn't matter. As for me, I'd have to go with Firestorm's Rogues. Off the top of my head: Killer Frost, Black Bison, Typhoon, Slipknot, Hyena, Cliff Carmichael, Multiplex, Goldenrod, Weasel, Parasite, and Silver Shade. I know there's more but that's all I can think of right now. Anybody else? Go ahead, it's fun.

Well Geoff Johns has made me a huge fan of The Flash's rogues. Thier just each so distinct and different. As a fan I admit they rock. :)

I've always felt that the Legion of Super-Heroes have had an interesting, varied and above all powerful rogues gallery that has been, sadly, overlooked for the most part.
You've got the Time Trapper, Mordru, Glorith, Computo, the Dark Circle, Universo, Dr. Regulus, Lightning Lord, Nemesis Kid, the Legion of Super-Villains, Starfinger, The Fatal Five, Pulsar Stargrave, The Infinite Man, the Khunds, the Dominators, the Sun-Eater, Roxxas....And lets not forget Darkseid. :)

Batman. I mean, come on. Joker, Harley, Ivy, Two-Face, Scarecrow, Riddler, Clayface, Freeze, Black Mask, Deadshot, and so many other fantastic, layered villains.

I'm going with the latter. Batman's Rogues have always appealed the most to me. I mean, you've got insane, demented, powerful, supernatural, natural (Ivy, Freeze), and just downright scary people in his Rogues Gallery. Got to love the psychotic freaks. :evilsmile

Waid Is gonna touch on a lot of them I'm sure. He hasn't really gotten Into using thier big time rogues yet. I'd love a slow approach and new version of each LOSH Rogue.

The Flash's. And long before Geoff Johns amped them up for Rouge War. These are still Barry Allen's villians, still classics, and still the only group worthy enough to be officially dubbed "Rouge's Gallery."

Captain Marvel, definitly.
Dr. Sivana, Black Adam, Mr. Mind, Captain Nazi, Ibbac ... what's not to love/hate?
Can't wait to see Jeff Smith's take on them!

Superman.
C'mon, it's not even close: we're talking about Luthor, Brainiac, Zod, Bizarro, Mxyzptlk and Darkseid! And awesome second-tier villains like Metallo and the Parasite.
Still not convinced? The Superman Rogue's Gallery also contains the largest monkey villain in the DCU.
That's a group of villains with an interesting and diverse combination of visuals, powers and motivations. Unfortunately, they've been horribly treated over the last 20 years (convoluted origins, crappy re-designs and constant depowering). But I still hold out hope that DC will give them the revitalization they deserve.
(Oh, when oh when are they going to bring Crisis-era robot Brainiac back? That was the creepiest bad guy ever.)

I'm partial to the New Teen Titans' Rogues: Trigon, Deathstroke, The Fearsome Five, Brother Blood, Blackfire, The Brotherhood of Evil, Terra.
Runner-up is the Legion's classic villains, particularly Mordru and the Fatal Five (good things seem to come in fives).

I love Batmans' rogues. They're the most interesting gallery to me. But Johns has done a great job at the Flash's, I just don't have an emotional attachment to most of them like I do to the likes of the Joker, Two-Face, Clayface, and the others.

I think I'm just over-exposed to Batman's villains now. I'd rather see The Top act psycho than The Joker lately, just because I've never seen it before.

I just loved how Gil Kane drew all these guys. My first introduction to much of the DCU was the original Who's Who series, and it was the Green Lantern and Atom villains drawn by Kane in those pages that always drew my attention to them, so they've become my favorites.
I love the Marvel Family, Super, Flash, and Bat villains all pretty equally as well though.

Which DC Superhero has your favorite list of archenemies? To keep this thread from being one-sided lets take Batman out of the running. Or if Batman is your favorite, list another you like.
I think The Flash has really fun villains. Captain Cold, Mirror Master and the Trickster are among my favorites.

Both Flash and Superman have great rogues, but it really depends on who is writing them. A lot of Flash's villains seem lame, but they have been written really well in recent years by both Waid and Johns, so much so that the Flash is generally regarded as having the second-best rogue's gallery in DC after Batman. As for Superman, I started a thread in the Superman forum a while back about how underrated his rogues are, so I definetly think there is potential there.

Batman.
The Flash has a strong rogue's gallery, but my problem with them has always been that I haven't found them particularly good opponents for the Flash. For Batman, Green Arrow, or someone like that, sure, but for a guy who can run at the speed of light, vibrate through objects, "borrow" speed, etc., having his "greatest villains" include a guy with a freeze gun and a guy who throughs boomerangs is somewhat problematic; most aren't anywhere near him in power.

Really when it comes to rogues it is either the flash's rogues or batman. The two best groups of rogues in all of comics.

Well, If I were to list the best Rogue's Galleries, the top ones would be, in no particular order:
Batman
Superman
Fantastic Four
Spider-Man
Flash
Other than those, though, there are a few DC heroes whose rogues have potential. I believe that DC has really been trying, on a number of projects, to shine up and improve on the enemies of the following:
Wonder Woman:
Circe, Cheetah, Giganta, Dr. Psycho, Ares (the ones EVERYBODY knows), and also Veronica Cale, Dr. Poison, Decay, The White Magician, Angle Man, and a bunch of others that need more individual time (not just use as part of a giant group).
Hawkman:
Byth, Hath-Set, Gentleman Ghost, I.Q., Lionmane, Fadeaway Man, Matter Master, Headhunter, and Onimarr Synn.
Martian Manhunter:
Malefic, Dr. Trapps, Bette Noir, Kanto, and evil Martians of all colors (there seem to be new ones all the time).
Green Arrow:
Ok, I admit his rogues gallery sucks. Count Vertigo, Constantine Drakon, Onomatopoiea, and,.......um, I don't know. Admittedly, some characters aren't playing that same game. Green Arrow writers never really seemed concerned with building this for him, but instead, to just let him be the lead in good (subjective) adventure stories.

Batman's villains as a group are the best because of their backstories, their depth and emotion. Each is a compelling character in their own way, whether it's because of their compulsions, addictions, obsessions, delusions, and outright insanity. He combines the freaks with the cold and calculating to, like Bane, Deadshot, Hush, etc... That's why they make up the greatest Rogues Gallery ever, in this or any other comic book universe.

Batman's or The Flash's Rogues i assert.
Remember, it's not always about powers or cheap gimmick weapons.
some of batman and The Flash's villains are perpetually compelling metaphors to different people in society.

Batman's rogues are the best. No question. This is partially because Batman is such a wildly popular character, so more stories have been written about him and more corners of his mythos have been explored. That's how all those villains got those great backstories.
There's also just something about them. The fact that they all get thrown in an asylum instead of a jail. And the fact that many of them have to be bright, playful, and/or childlike in order to offset Batman's darkness...that helps make them really creepy and memorable.
That said, I wish Johns would get his hands on every Rogue's Gallery in the DCU and improve them the way he's improved The Flash's and now Hal Jordan's nemeses.

I'm biased since Superman's my fave, but how can you not love a gallery with Doomsday, Darkseid, Mongul, Blaze, Satanus, Cyborg-Supes, Zod & the Phantom Zoners, Bizarro, Mxyzptlk, Gog, Preus, Asmodel, Millenium Giants, Imperiex, Dominous, Megadon, Solaris, a Kryptonian Ice Goddess, Dev-em, Ultra-man...a whole gallery of cosmics/planet busters, plus a few Kryptonite powered villians, and Luthor and Brainiac for added brainpower.

Batman: He's easily got the most diversified and colorful grouping of villains in the DCU. Any list of 'Overall Favorite Comic Book Villains' that I have read (or composed myself) tends to have a generous helping of the Batman bad guys, and for good reason.
Superman: His rogue's gallery would already be a strong second due to the trio of my boy Lex plus Braniac and General Zod, but then I read dupersuper's previous post and remembered that Superman actually does have a pretty lengthy and varied list of foes in addition to his "big three."
Flash: Never thought all that much of Flash's Rogues until Johns' run on the title, and then found myself dreading the ending of "Rogue War" since I had come to enjoy these characters so much and knew they'd never see this kind of prominence and character depth again after Johns left. Personal faves from this crew are Cold, Mirror Master, and Doc Alchemy.

I've really gotten into Flash Rogues with Rogue War--I really like Captain Cold and Pied Piper.
But also the enemies of the Teen Titans. Slade, Cheshire, and the Five are my favorites from that group.
Wonder Woman's needs work (which I'm sure Gail simone will work on), but I look back and see some potential--certainly the most intriguing Rogues Gallery right now because of its relatively undefined state compared to the others.

The Flash's Rogues, because they're what you expect the heroes to be- they're a family. Mirror Master does drugs? Captain Cold will beat the crap out of him for it. Someone dies? All the Rogues get together for the funeral. They're one giant disfunctional family. particularly love the sheer class COld exhibits, like sending flowers to Sue Dibny's funeral.

I stand by Captain Marvel as my first choice. I recently read The New Teen Titan Archives Vol. I and the Titans' rogues come a very close second as my personal favorite group of bad guys.
Deathstroke, Trigon, The Fearsome Five, H.I.V.E., Blackfire, Boss Scarapelli, Brother Blood, The New Brotherhood of Evil and Terra were all top-notch nastiness makers. They varied from cosmic, to supernatural to international crime to mob boss. Even the cannon-fodder mooks like Trident and Disruptor were cool spins on the super-villain concept. It was a fun time for me eagerly awaiting each new issue of the Titans to see what new form of villainy would (or could) top the last.
