View Full Version : Teenagers Surfing 4 pron

I was listening to a local radio show here. MJmorningshow.com
And in it they talk about a study that showed that most teens surf porn on the net, and can find ways to get around it (edit: sorry, here I mean around what parents do to keep them away from porn). If you use AOL's parental controls, they know how to get around it, if you use a background program, they use cntl alt dlt to find it and get rid of it.
So he had callers, and they were all male. They said they started around 15, and would bring it in in their folders, to school, etc, or on their laptops. And the DJ tried to coax female students onto the air, but they would not go on, saying they did not want to be caught.
But they were saying things (according to host) like, they would rush home from school to surf for porn, they were addicted, etc.
That last part kind of threw me for a loop. Addicted to porn? Sure it is fun, but...addicted??
Do you think it is unhealthy for teenagers, 14 to 17, to surf for porn? How do we stop our kids from doing it when they are so smart?

Shite, a retarded chimp with AIDS can get around AOL's parental controls.
Im pretty sure before we had the internet kids were watching cinemax, or before that looking at nudie magazines.
Its not really unhealthy in my mind to let 14-17 year olds to watch porn, its safer then actually having sex at 17, no chance of getting a girl in a movie pregnant.

Sexual addiction is a real thing, and yes...it includes addiction to pornography.
My father is a child psychiatrist. While he's never revealed personal details, apparently this is not an uncommon thing.

Okay, no argument, just two questions:
First, does the idea of the "child" or "teen" or whatever saying they are "addicted" to it sound not so healthy for mental faculties?
And, two, could porn lead to sex since it will desensitized?
Just asking.

Well, like someone said, if not the Internet they'd be waching Skinemax lol!
Actually... err... when I was younger I did that. Watched scrambled Skinemax. Teens will always find ways to view porn. Not that I approve. Just that I remember being a teenager.

That saddens me. :(
Porn is nice, but there is no need to dwell on it. There is much more pleasure out there than sex.

Anything can be addicting if you think about it. However, I do agree it is sort of a bad situation if someone gets addicted to Porn, or anything for that matter.
Except love, but I'm a romancicist.

1. Addicted, yeah, id say thats a problem, but there are adult porn addicts, teen alcholics, etc etc, the problem isn't caused by the presence of porn, its caused by the particular person (person, not just teen or child) having access too it. Special cases and all that
2. I was a teenager....3 years ago. Being a teenager leads to sex.

People want to look at dirty pictures and you might as well let 'em because there's no cure for it that isn't worse than the disease.

I thank you for your answer.
And I am sorry my english is not so good today, I have a flu, and it is hard for me to translate so well. If my brother were here, it would be easier.

If all teens have to worry about is an addiction to porn- then I think were doing ok.
In my opinion this is a non-issue.

Keep in mind that they were saying (and I am not saying I agree or disagree) that it desensitizes them so they have sex, which leads to pregnancy, std, aids, etc.
Just to point out that it is not necessarily a non issue.

Well, not really. There is no such diagnosis as "sexual addiction."
Compulsive sexual behavior - whether applied to porn or to some other sexual behavior - is a very real problem, and it has some similarities with addiction, but at most this is a metaphor. Like most metaphors, it has a certain use in illustrating and understanding some things, but one has to be careful to not mistake metaphor for equivalence. There are very real differences between true addictions and compulsive behavior problems, be they sexual or otherwise.

Or it may aim their sexual urges elsewhere.
Sex is a part of life, and yes it is a part of teenage life. Teenagers were having sex before internet porn and I bet they would still have sex if porn were not part of the internet.

I am old enough... hee, early twenties.
If you are getting at what I was like when I was a kid, I saw the occasional naked picture. Mostly I was too busy trying to survive. Taking care of family, working, trying to make them proud that I was in school.
For the record I am still a virgin, so perhaps I am biased.

Well, it only desensitizes them if they haven't gotten good sex education. So, i guess they are screwed. :D

Oh, okay.
I think it's fine. I looked at "Playboy" when I was 8 years old and I turned out gay (and relatively normal) anyway. :) I think it all really depends on the person.
And, besides, we all know that boys are horny. Of course they're going to look at porn, but rushing home to look at it... Well. To each their own, I guess, heh.

LOL, why would you read Playboy? Are you liking both? I wish I did. Would be so cool to be able to say, "Hmm, that girl is nice, and so is that guy, but not them..."
It gives you more choices. :D

Don't really see how this one is shocking...
We are built to rebel, we are told that porn is bad, so some of us surf for porn. Heck, some of us who don't will STILL get hit by the "evils of sex" by spam messages in our email inbox. There is no way to avoid it, and some people actually like looking at naked men/women, regardless of age, once they hit a certain age.
No, I don't surf for porn.

I was a little kid and had just found my uncle's stash.
Natural curiousity, of course. :D
Of course, I had no idea of what was what and got spooked by all the nakedness. ;)
I didn't discover the true purpose of nudity until I was, like, 14.
And now I think I've shared too much...

And I thought 14 was young...jeez, Americans are porn happy. I'm American now, and as they say, when in rome... :evilsmile I will have to download twice as much porn to keep up.

me...surf porn.......nooooo. These accusations are ridiculous. Porn is dirt, evil, and the work of Satan and is spawn.......
But in all seriousness, i like porn, my friends like porn, and my friends friends like porn. None of us are in anyway "addicted" to porn. Hell, my biology teacher seems to encourage it for young adults such as myself. It is better then the alternative.

I'd think it's safer looking at porn on the computer for a teenager and risking the chance of getting a computer virus, than it is going out for actual sex and getting a real virus.

Wow,... that's incredibly astute. ... Hmm.. just because I'm not sure if I'm using the word astute 100 percent correctly, I'll also use the word wise. Because I can.
When I was 14, I sneakily watched Cinemax late at night and snuck around to look at my grandfather's dirty mags. I'm fine.
*jitter, shake, twitch*
No, really...*twitch*, I'm fine.

I have a confession to make
I was a lonely fat acne filled teenager and once you discovered the majesty of the naked female body, you'd try and see it as much as possible. Whether it'd be looking at the collection your older relatives had or surfing the net, the pursuit for erected happyness will be achieved. And every school I went to knew a guy who could get porn. I think I even did my first circuit metal project trying to rewire my cable box to get the spice channel.

Not really desensatizes, but educates...you want to know what in the hell sex looks like before you're actually in the situation.
And yes, I was one of the many kids who'd sneak downstairs in the middle of the night to watch cinemax softcore. What can you do, kids are curious. I do think that it depends on the person though. I mean, I watched cinemax and HBO reel sex...was a virgin till I wat 19!
Its not about how much porn you watch, its how you're raised and what values you've been raised to have about yourself and your body.
And sex wouldn't lead so much to STDS, AIDS and pregnancy if people were responsible about sex and taught kids to be safe...something this country seems to be slipping on as of late.
