Romano Scarpa was truly the most versatile Disney artist of all time. May he rest in peace. :(

Wow, first Branca and now Scarpa? This is turning out to be a bad year for duck artists. :(

Thank you for posting this news. Through reprints in the U.S., Scarpa has become one of my favorite artists. This is very sad news.

Romano Scarpa made the best Italian mouse stories as well.

Have they ever reprinted them in the U.S.?

IMHO, they are even better than his duck stories

Yes, Gladstone reprinted a number of his Mickey stories, mostly in the mid-1980's. The Disney fans in the U.S. have only seen a small portion of his work. I hope that this changes soon. The present publisher, Gemstone seems to be increasing their output ever so slowly. So, there is hope.

My favourite Scarpa story would be "The Chirikawa Necklace" (1960).

Very exciting Hitchcock-type story, references from "Vertigo" and "Spellbound". It's about a trauma from Mickey's childhood.

It features Mickey's pal from the Delta Dimension, Atomino Bip Bip. He was a Scarpa creation and appeared in a lot of best his stories in the early 60s. And there is the only appearance of Mickey's aunt, Topolinda. (The names are Italian)

Here's a sobering thought:

Uncle Scrooge #341, which came out today, contains four stories. Each of those stories is by a creator who is no longer living. :( (Barks, Branca and Scarpa.)
