And so we come to the conclusion of the Veitch mini.
First off, once again the art was phenomenol and even though I thought The Question's face had a little too much detail on the cover I really have nothing bad to say about it. Lovely.
There is a small curio I have though. I've mentioned before that the metro trains in Metropolis have an amazing similiarity to the trains on the 'Central line' in London. Does anyone know if Edwards is English or is referencing the London subway. Even the subway logo is a London one. I was also struck by the Englishness of the attending policemen.
While I like the basic plot of the mini I haven't always been impressed by the way it has been executed. I thought that issue 5 was perhaps the best so far and thought I would be able to stomach issue 6 but I really think that this issue is terrible.
1) Vic...bloody talk some sense will you, and if you do need to talk shit to yourself ALL DAY then at least make it vaguely clever shit. The constant litany of psuedo mystical poetry that spews from his lips really slaps me out of the story. Any device that does that is not aiding the story.
2) Some like this evoloution of Vic's character and for those that do, I'm going to set aside my objedtion to the urban shaman development and instead focus on Vic's morality. Vic was always a hard man, even from his Charlton days, but how any of you fans can deal with the fact that Vic has been turned into a cold hearted callous and vindictive killer is beyond me. His dispatching of the guy in the concrete is particularly loathsome.
3)The Question exists in the same place as Batman, in that he is the people's hero, the one that us non-powered kids could relate to, he fights on with nothing but limited resource and his owm skill and determination. As such he has always interacted well with heroes such as Green Arrow. However Vic is now possessed of supernatural powers, he is no longer the Vic we knew, the hero that was human.
4)In love with Lois Lane? What about the woman, you loved and fought for, you fought beside. The woman whose child you took responsibilty for. The woman who challenged and inspired you. What about Myra. Have you forgotten her already yet clung to a wistful teenage dream.
For the record I like to see characters I love change and develop and grow. I don't want a static comicverse, but this.....
Who are you Vic Sage, I'm not sure I know, you don't look familiar anymore :(
