So as not to derail the IC thread, anyone else really want to see a Static series from DC again with Dwayne McDuffie at the helm?

I hear the cartoon's picked up a huge following in reruns.

Comic or cartoon version?

As someone who never followed the old comic, I'd be cool with either as long as Gear gets introduced. As people noted on the other thread, the Gear/Static chemistry is pretty spiffy and I don't know anything else quite like it in comics.

I suggested on the other thread that people go to comic shops to read about super-heroes they know. Super-heroes that get introduced in comics today don't stand much of a chance... But Static has a broad (and growing) audience from the cartoon... And I think if DC will follow through, Static stands the chance of being the biggest standalone super-hero property in their line since 1959... Or at least the undiscovered great find of the 1990s.

Dwayne McDuffie has been fighting an uphill battle for DC to release Static merchandise... There won't even be an action figure based on his JLU appearance.

I've heard that Geoff Johns would love to get Static into Titans but that there are hangups in the process...

Hopefully, this will all get resolved because Static would make such a great addition to the DC line. (He was even brought into the DCU in his old book.)

I thought there were rights issues between DC and Milestone regarding the milestone characters. Anybody know who owns what?

Apart from that, i think a new Static series would be a good idea.

Comic or cartoon version?Cartoon version. No offense to the original version, but aside from a couple of appearances of Static back in the 90's, when Dakota and the DCU were crossing over because fof some mailman, I don't know much about the comic version.

I know Richie wasn't there, and I know that Virgil (or is it Virgel?) had two friends who got amalgamated into the cartoon version of Richie. However, not knowing how Virgil and his friends worked, I'd be dubious if they shoehorned one into being Gear.

Johnny DC seems to be a good venue for just staring up a Static comic, maybe even mid-stride. Start the series where the cartoon left off, have "Pops" know who Static is. Have Rubberbandman dating Sharon.

I've heard that Geoff Johns would love to get Static into Titans but that there are hangups in the process...Hahaha. So, would this mean that Virgil becomes an angsty teenager, distraught and forlorned with his place in life, or does his internal monologue just go on for pages and pages about how he isn't as cool as the other Titans?
