View Full Version : Let's say there was a New JLA ala New Avengers...

I've been wracking my brain trying to think up counterparts. I'm thinking...

Golden Guardian (Jim Harper) - Captain America (Maybe Sarge Steel...)
Blue Beetle - Spider-man (Oops! Maybe... Arsenal?)
Azrael - Wolverine (So he's dead. There's no body.)
Booster Gold - Iron Man
Richard Dragon - Iron Fist
Tarrantula - Spider-woman
Black Lightning - Luke Cage
Triumph - Sentry

Huh. I think I like the DC version better...

Booster Gold - Iron Man

Umm did you just compare Booster Gold to Iron Man? Because Iron Man bumbles so many of his assignments?

Well, they're both tech-based heroes who are historically very rich millionaire playboys.

I tend to think that the stories where Booster bumbles were for dramatic or comedic effect and that Superman or Captain Marvel would have bumbled just as much in the same story.

You are absolutely correct. I like your comparisons but I think that Steel would be a better Iron Man guy.

Funny, I thought New Avengers was made to make Avengers like the JLA. I don't see how you can make the JLA more like New Avengers as it already was.

They could slow things down to a crawl.

Keep the basics and start over with two JLA mainstays.

I would say Batman and Wonder Woman, because they're two of the most longstanding (historically) members of the League, famous, and balance one another in ways possibly more interesting than even Superman/Batman.

Batman (Iron Man type--rich playboy by day, superhero by night, payroll)

Wonder Woman (Captain America type; inspiring, leadership, history).

Captain Comet--Sentry type. A man out of time, highly powered, unexplored potential.

Vixen--feral superhero with checkered history, Leaguer reservist. Wolverine stand-in.

The Creeper--wisecracking urban avenger of the team; Spider-Man type.

Nightshade--Mysterious spy with cryptic past; Spider-Woman's number in JLA.

Cyborg--Urban muscle who graduates to JLA status; Luke Cage equivalent.

Bronze Tiger--Martial Artist; Daredevil/Iron Fist type for the team.

Aztek was the unexplored potential of the DCU for me, cut down in his prime before things really got going with the character. I don't think he'll resurface again unless Morrison drags up his sorry @$$.

I'm turned all upside down by this thread. The New Avengers are the JLA, in a lot of ways.... now if you were talking about making the JLA like the OLD Avengers...

They did that. It is usually referred to as "JLDetroit".

For real, or a joke? I don't know anything about that.

It's real.

Aquaman was the most powerful member.

Oh! And RedKingRising... You know Aztek is in Justice league Unlimited, right?

Wait but isn't the current Avengers line up the attempt to make the Avengers the (Morrison Era)JLA?

Cap-Supes (the leader and hero)
Sentry- Martian Manhunter ( the powerhouse adjusting to humanity)
Wolverine- Batman (the badass)
Spider-Man- Green Lantern- Kyle/ Plastic man(the young hero new to being on a team/ the comic relief)
Spider-Woman- Wonder Woman (the diplomat)
Luke Cage- Aquaman (guy with a different background and view)
Iron Man- Flash (the smartass veteran)

and is Iron Fist the mystery Ninja man?

I'm assuming. Some people think it's Daredevil.

The suit is yellow and green and the guy is equiped with nunchucks -- so unless they're faking us out...

For real, or a joke? I don't know anything about that.

JLDetroit was an 80's experiment in making the JLA into more of a family book. (Actually, it's a closer comparison to Titans or X-Men, but Avengers works, too.) They wrote out Batman, Superman et al, and kept a few recognizable characters - Aquaman, J'onn, Zatanna, Elongated Man. Then they added a bunch of teens and newbies. The idea was that they could have better character development with folks who weren't already in their own books.

It didn't work, needless to say.
