View Full Version : Changed My Mind About My Psp

I thought I liked it.
But I LOVE it.
Yesterday, on a long car trip home, I played mp3 songs I'd saved, looked at pictures of my family, watched Spider Man 2 AND played rocking games, all on my psp.
And the games are great! Ridge Racer has GOT to be the best handheld racer ever, Darkstalkers kicks ass, and Lumines is one of the best puzzle games I've ever played. Ultold Legends is a blast, sort of a cross between D&D and Diablo. The only dud so far is Ape Escape, which I just don't care for.
Lots of the movies coming out for the system are on Amazon for just 13 bucks, and they look fantastic with incredible sound...I actually much preferred watching it on the PSP over my little portable dvd player even with the smaller screen because it looked so great and was easier to hold.
Pretty soon, lots of games are coming that can be played wirelessly over the internet.
Great system. My fave since the Dreamcast, I'd say.
Best,
Gail

Wow... I was up for the DS to be honest, but it's lacking a killer app ... and the more I hear and see about PSP the more I like it.
That and the nagging notion that whilst I have an X-Box and Gamecube, I really should have gotten a PS2. I love RPG's and it's drowing in them.
PSP game wise...Metal Gear Acid looks rather cool! :)

No, and in fact, it's surprising me a lot. I didn't like the PS1 or the PS2 at ALL. I thought both were inferior systems.

Uhm, I'm sorry but isnt PSP LIKE PS1 except hand-held and purty ;) ?
And PS2 SUPERIOR, Xbox INFERIOR! except if you like to play FPS online... oh wait, I have a COMPUTER to do that ;)
hehe :D Sorry Gail, just had to release some anti-xbox steam ;)

That's because they ARE! Crap systems, both of them. Bug filled little disaters with a strong marketing team. 1 in 50 games for the system is worthwhile and it is most likely on X-Box & 'Cube as well.
I won't give my opinion of Sony fanboys.

Metroid's out soon. And Wario Ware is like video cannibis, seriously. Play it, especially with friends for more than ten minutes and you'll be giggling like idiots.
And Metal Gear Acid: Now With Cards! ? Why?

Darkstalkers is the one game I envy PSP owners for. I love that series for its crazy characters(especially Lei-Lei/Hsien-ko), and it sucks that Capcom didn't use more of them in the VS. games.
Meanwhile, Wario Ware Touched is the game I envy DS owners for, but I may be able to satisfy that jealousy with Wario Ware Twisted...

I've gone off video games in the last ten years or so. I admire the technology and art that goes into them, but I don't get any real enjoyment from them anymore.

I just satisfy myself with the must-haves(Zelda, Metroid) and the truly innovative titles(Katamari Damacy, Wario Ware). I can't afford any more than that anyway.

ahem sony looks inferior because the idiots there quickly mashed up the ps2 post haste in response to the dreamcast. the development kits - the initial ones sucked and it was programatically speaking very hard to work with. i think ive seen three games taht know how to use it properly - final fantasy x, tekken 5, and zone of the enders 2. the ps3, however, should kick ass :D

I won't debate the ant-PS2 People on here. Lets just say I enjoy mine and have countless games and DVD's I watch. The end result Is , I'm a huge fan of Final Fantasy.
Now onto PSP. Well considering that God made the PSP for a reason , we all should feel blessed. This Is according to South Park. ;)

What ? I will say that Sony doesn't have a good track record on 1st released consoles, but last time I checked most 1st gen products, from cars to tvs to pcs have bugs. It's impossible to find them all. But after that 1st gen release, the consoles are great.
I love my Gamecube, it's a great system but the number of games available are limited. X-Box also has had it's shared of issues: humongoid gorilla controls, cords which could start fires. X-Box's main point o sale is it's online stuff. Whoopee! I can play online! *shrug*
PS2 has a more diversified games and has ALOT more games coming out for it on a regular basis than X-Box. So, more games means a greater chance of crappy games, no ?
At any rate, I'll say this, games whatever you want, JUST PLAY SOMETHING :D and don't let kids play M rated games dammit! :D

Wario Ware innovative? I'm sorry no. It's just a bunch of brainless minigames with nothing to tie them together. It's the poster child for ADD. I bet the people that made it are giggling at peoples gullability.

And Tetris is just blocks falling. And rock is just three chords on the guitar.
They can giggle at my gullability all they want, I'm giggling at how much fun it is.
The PSP still has to win me over. Twisted Metal is okay but with control problems, Spider Man 2 the game is fun but I'm stuck on the Mysterio boss fight.

On the contrary, it's been my experience that short-attention-span gamers get frustrated by the game's demand that you relearn the controls every five seconds.

Right, because you're not a fanboy at all.
And I agree with you wholeheartedly Gail, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my PSP. I can't even imagine buying another portable gaming system at this point. I haven't played Ridge Racer, but Wipeout Pure is one of the better racing games I've played in a while, period.

I was hoping Gail was tunring over to the DS camp. Well I can't blame PSP fans for liking their system. It is good, but I'm quite happy with my DS. Then again I've been playing GBA games on it, as it does need more damn games and some solid killer ones, but I've been enjoying the hell out of the GBA ones. Just finished Zelda Minish Cap and it was damn fine. I loved the hell out of Castlevania and there's gonna be a DS sequel. Plus there are tons of GBA games I'd love to get. Hell, even the NES Zelda was awesome to play again on the go.
Thankfully, there are some sweet DS titles on the way, but they are aways away. Also, I do hope I can keep my roomate away from Animal Crossing DS. It's like The Sims but cuter and it's gonna be online.
Again, I don't really want killer graphics and really don't need UMD video and a picture viewer. I just want portable gaming.
As for Metal Gear Acid... NO! Had they done a decent MGS game, I might have been interested in the system, but this card thing is a whole other animal.
I really don't hold anything against Gail for loving PSP. I jsut wish she'd give the DS some love too. The PSP does not need more promotion.
Acutully, finding out that Gail loved the Dreamcast just gets her mucho points in my book. My roomate had that system and damn was it underrated. It was a great sytem that didn't have much of a chance. Plus it had games I love like Marvel vs Capcom 2, some of the Sonic games, plus they had a pretty cool game of the damn awesome manga Berserk. I may still need to get one just for those.

The Dreamcast was great. The first time I played Sonic on it, wow!
I gotta say what's taking up most of my time now is Resident Evil 4 on the Game Cube. A recent game show got it right when they said the Cube is the Mac of the game world. It'll never be as popular as the PS2 or XBOX but it delivers the goods and those who have one love it.

Does that mean that the DS is their iPod?
And Xenos, MGA may not be a typical MGS game, but it's damn good. It takes a little getting used to, but once you do it's really really fun.
And is there anyone that bought a Dreamcast and didn't love it?

i loved the Dreamcast controllers. i wish people would go back and make similar controllers for the next gen consoles.
im eagerly awaiting the ps3, xbox 360 and the nintendo revolution.
from what ive heard nintendo is going to offer touch screen controllers for the revolution so the developer can create a customized controller for their games.
can we say - kick ass?

I stand by the quote (which isn't mine) the Gamecube is the Mac of the gaming world.
Seriously, play Resident Evil 4 sometime and tell me that isn't a kick ass system.

My mac and my cube crash about equally often(which is to say, not often at all.) Haven't seen a bomb icon since OS X came along.

Nintendo has never released a bugged up system. Now if they would just release a damn game!
And I hated the X-Box at first but grew to like it when I realized Sega was never going to make another system *sniff*. The Dreamcast was such a wonderful piece of hacker/pirate equipment. *pets useless Dreamcast affectionately*
