The nominations are out. I'm always horrible at remembering what books were out when, and why they should clearly have been nominated, but weren't. Right now, the furor at Newsarama would seem to be FLIGHT VOLUME ONE's absense. I have to agree with that.
And I really really hope Dave Sim wins for his lettering this year. It's pretty much his last chance in that category, and he deserves it.

I sense a column coming on. Between this and Humanoids/2000 A.D.'s demise, I may not need to review any comics this week.

just commented on this.
I am ASTOUNDED by the lack of creativity in the picks this year!!
After I saw Greg Rucka get nominated and win (?) for that contrived "Half a Life" story in Gotham Central. I knew that the Eisner's weren't worth taking seriously. As is any sort of major award. It's all office politics and favouritism. Annoy anyone on the selection commitee and you won't get nominated or win.

I have confirmation from Image now that they DID send FLIGHT VOLUME ONE into the Eisners for potentional nomination. We can blame strictly the judges on that snub.
But you're right -- the overall nominations are pretty blah. I wanted to go to the Eisners this year just to see how they handle the loss of Will Eisner, but I'm not sure the rest of the ceremony will be worth it.

Most of the stuff on the nominations list, I haven't read.
It's like the Anti-Emmys for me....:D

See, I'm just the opposite. I'm amazed at how much of the stuff I have read. In fact, I think I've read all but one of the nominated books in the Best Graphic Novel category. I might even put together a special column in an upcoming Friday to rerun some of those reviews I've done in the past year. We'll see if I have enough stuff for that.

I've read a good amount of the books on the list, but not nearly all of them. I always have a hard time remembering, like Augie, what came out when - especially when I read so friggin' much.
But I wasn't pissed about Flight not getting a nod. I seem to be the only person who was let down by that GN. It just wasn't for me. I just hope Gene Colan gets into the HOF.

Agreed on Gene Colan. His was the first name that I'd throw into the Hall of Fame. It's tough to pick only four from that list, but he's one I "need" to see in there. The man deserves it, and we should definitely honor him while we're fortunate enough to still have him with us. (Sorry if that sounds a little morbid, but I've attended enough Eisners and read far too many of Mark Evanier's obits...)

I was actually really happy with a lot of the nominations this year (stuff I've actually read! Yay me!) and surpised by a few!
Particularly the nominations COMMON GROUNDS garnered in the Best Short Story and Best Anthology categories! WAY TO GO, TROY!!
Maybe this'll encourage Top Cow to get some more published!
Also pleasantly surprised to see Sean McKeever getting a Talent Deserving Wider Recognition nomination, this year! YAY SEAN!
Also, very happy for DEMO, EX MACHINA, ASTONISHING X-MEN (and Joss getting a Best Writer nom) and WE3 as well as the continued Eisner support for Y THE LAST MAN, FABLES, COURTNEY CRUMRIN.

I sense a column coming on.
Make sure you mention "Owly" -- best thing on the list this year!

Ahead of William Moulton Marston? Colan has had a great career at Marvel and worked on a ton of great assignments throughout the industry, but he didn't create Wonder Woman!

I agree that Moulton Marston should be in there, too. I was surprised he wasn't already.
But Colan is more of a personal choice. I've enjoyed his work personally. Can't say as I've ever read a think Wonder Woman's creator did.

I agree Mauk! And guess what??? I just found this:
Hiya! Sorry for being away for a while, but truth be told, with the first CG series ending, I didn't want to seem like I was beating a dead horse! I was waiting to have some new material coming out that I could yack about, and I'm happy to say that some is on its way (more on this as it develops!).
