What's the BEST written story that was ruined by crummy art?

What's the WORST written story that was saved with great art?

Mabey Secret War, great art but it sure doesn't make any sense!

Worst story saved by good art - Any Todd Mcfarlane issue of Spider-Man (the title he wrote and drew).

Venom vs. Carnage. A good story but terrible artwork.

"A Game of You" from Sandman is probably my favorite story in any DC comic, ever. (Possible exception of the Old School Enemy Ace.) But the art was spotty, with one chapter done by a completely different artist in a completely different style.

Worst story saved by great art . mmm i could say the issues of Clone saga drawn by Mark Bagley . But then i'm not sure it was really "saved" (except for a few scarlet spider appearances)

Worst art saved by great writing .. i have to say morrison's run with Igor Kordey's definitively hiddous art , and Quitely wich drew the most ugly jean grey and x female characters ever (imo of course)

I agree. Igor is horrible, and Quitely is very hit or miss. His New X-Men was a HUGE miss. All of his female characters looked like they were "packing", if you know what I mean. Strange unwomanly bulges in the nether regions.

Best story ruined by good art- Sandman #28. Although it wasn't really ruined by the art.

Worst story saved by good art- Todd Mcfarlane's Spider-MAn #8-12 (although it may not have been saved as I gave those issues away.)

Best story ruined by bad art: Alan Moore and Rob Liefeld's Judgment Day. Rob allegedly refused to draw half of what Alan put in the script.

Worst story saved by good art: Son of Satan #8. Bill Mantlo's story is not worth the time it takes to read it. But Russ Heath's artwork is phenomenal, probably some of the best art of his career, and it's more than enough to save the story.

I think there are a lot more bad stories saved by good art than good stories ruined by bad art. Another example of the former category is Philippe Druillet's album The Six Voyages of Lone Sloane-- the story makes nearly no sense, but the art is mind-blowing.

Kordey was the WORST. The issue in the chunnel, with a monster was terrible. The people were all so ugly, i wasnt sure which character was the monster.

Wow, I was actually thinking of that New X-Men issue with Fantomex and the chunnel too.

The whole series was rolling along so well, and then that art in that issue really killed it for me. I imagine it was supposed to be a really tense action/horror scene, but ugh...

I had no problems with Quietly or Jimenez' art on the series, but Igor didn't fit.

im bad with names. if a story is bad, its bad regardless of artwork. that said, stories that i enjoyed that had horrible art are:

x-force/x-statix
new mutants, volume 2

The new Iron Man series. Warren Ellis is a good writer but the computer drawn pictures just don't work.

Really? I would have said the opposite. Better art than story... just my opinion.

Fully agree with you here. Art stinks.
