I've just read the Andy Diggle Swamp Thing tpb and was fairly underwhelmed. Does anyone know if it gets better with the writer after him?

What is the take on the character in the current series?

I thought Vaughn had the right idea for his series (too bad I was the only one), so I'm intrigued what they've found new to say/do with the character.

Last time I saw a preview of Swamp Thing, a giant version of Swamp Thing was fighting a big, ugly monster. I felt as if I had walked in a Godzilla vs. Mothra slugfest.

Well the TPB bassically worked on reducing his power back down to either Alan Moore or Wein/Wrightson levels - it's not quite clear

It's pretty open for whatever the next writer chooses beyond that.

And yes that fight is in the TPB and it reminded me of Godzilla too

So basically they wanted more Swamp Thing but couldn't find away to tell stories any more with his constant evolution?

Or vertigo forgot it was cutting edge and thought it was marvel, hence the need to keep things forever the same?

I really quite like the new Swamp Thing series, at first it was like a kind of Alan Moore nostalgia storyline, with the added character of Millars ( I believe ) Tefe' ( I havent read any of the Millar stuff ).

Now though it is going into an odd slightly melodramatic psychodelia type of thing, with the return of Arcane in a kind of spirit gaseous form, well at least the last issue I read this happened in, I have missed a couple of months.

I would certainly say give it a go, it is true the book does not yet seem to have its indentity clear but it is really fun bizarre Swamp Thing stories.

I'm not sure what you mean -- Millar didn't create Tefe. Doug Wheeler did, after which Rick Veitch, Nancy Collins, Mark Millar and Brian Vaughan developed her growth before the current series.

Not Rick Veitch - he just dealt with the conception and most of the pregnancy.

Andy Diggle's short run was okay. Nothing earth-shattering. His first issue was real good. The second was good. Then it just went downhill with no excitement.

Will Pfeifer's two issues were poor.

Haven't read Joshua Dysart's run. So I don't know how it's doing now.

I've never read Swamp Thing before. But after trying the first two attempts in this restart, I didn't come away impressed enough to try the third guy's run.

Every writer's different, but after giving it two shots, I stopped bothering. Maybe if I hear some good word of mouth (I haven't heard any yet), I'll give it a look.

My mistake -- I actually didn't mean to include Veitch in the list. Sorry about that!
