I posted this on the Rumbles board as well since its a fight. But it's certainly relevant to Anime/Manga as well:

Outside of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles (which isn't a crossover so much as an alternate world with various reimagined versions of Clamp's characters coexisting), Slayers vs. Orphen is the only official manga crossover that I can think of in recent years. I think Ken Akamatsu did some crossovers between his own manga characters, but nothing beyond Cameo or short appearances IIRC.

Anyways, they list it as a "Novel," though I think they mean a graphic novel, since they list an illustrator in the staff. However, I suppose that could mean illustrator for the cover art. Anyways, novel or graphic novel this will probably be pretty interesting. So any thoughts on this from people who have seen and/or read both. This doesn't come out until summer so we don't know much about it yet.

So how do you think they would match up. If Orphen's team and the Slayer's regular team (IE, not including Filia or Xellos) met up, and some misunderstanding led to a standoff, what would the result be. Slayers has the powerhouse advantage IMO, but Orphen shouldn't be discounted. Tower of Heaven Spells make Orphen-verse sorcerers extremely fast as well as ungodly mobile, and Sleep of Atonement is a pretty impressive freezing spell. Long range attack is in the Slayers Advantage, but with impressive speed and dangerous melee attack spells, the athletic Orphen could match up to them if he plays his cards right.

Also, what would happen if some of the bigger elements from the series were brought together. What if ChildMan went up against a Mazoku? If he cast the Verdict of Non-existence against one would he kill it? What if he cast the Verdict of Non-existence against a higher end one like Xellos?

It is a prose novel with illustrations, not a graphic novel. Lina has her basic team of Gourry/Zel/Amelia with her in this one, and Naga too. But Orphen doesn't have his usual anime partners, but those from his more recents (until that point) novels.

So there are Orphen novels that weren't adapted eh? What happened to Cleo and Magic then?
