(I just got the latest catalogue from Fantasy Flight Games. Since I worked for them for a while and bought some of their games with the 75% employee discount, they put me on their mailing list.)

Anyway, Fantasy Flight is doing a boardgame called Marvel Heroes. Here's the text from the catalogue:

"The Ultimate Marvel Universe Strategy Game!

In Marvel Heroes, players play one of their favorite heroes: Spider-man, Hulk, Mr. Fantastic, or many others. At the same time, each player plays an evil mastermind, like Dr. Doom or Magneto, planning their apocalyptic plots! Can your chosen hero foil the plans of these diabolical villains?

Marvel Heroes includes high-quality 40mm plastic figures of many of the major Marvel Super Heroes, including Wolverine, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and the X-Men, as well as an array of Super-Villains.

Marvel Heroes MV01 $59.95 Available in October 2005."

Fantasy Flight does pretty good boardgames, and when a game does well, they are good about doing sequels that add on to the main game. And even if they don't, it would be cool to make some house rules for additional characters, using HeroClix figures to represent them. Better yet, you could get some DC and independent clix and make some house rules for those characters so you could really expand the game.

I was unable to find it on their website now, so I wonder if the game is still on track. I would venture a guess that it's probably for ages 10 and up, and realistically, your 7-year-old would have no trouble learning it if you taught him how to play. Age 2 is pretty young for board games, I would guess that the little one would be more interested in the playing pieces than the rules.
