melee. may-lay, meh-LEE ?

rapier. rayp-ee-yer, rah-PEER ?

sigil. (specifically the city in d&d planescapes) sijil, sihgil (a hard "g"?),

paladin. a friend got it stuck in his head to say "plah-din"

there's all kinds of fun ones from the wheel of time.

have any other fun pronunciations from the gaming table, due to the made up words or crazy r&d teams?

For years (because I had read the word long before actually hearing it) I incorrectly pronounced 'melee' as MEE-lee instead of MAY-lay.

for the longest time i said REE-oo, until i found out it was RY-oo. took a while to train myself for that one.

i'd love to know what it is with older people and pokemon though. if i had a nickel for every time i heard "pokey-man".

The name is composed of the katakana characters ri and u, with a small yu between them, turning ri into ryu, and extending the last sound with the u into ryuu.

In order for "Ry-oo" to be correct, the name would have to be spelled ra, i, yu, which it is not.

Melee is MAY-LAY

Other than that, Melchior's list is correct (Although I'm not familiar with Sigil but I'll take anyones word for it).

Actually, yeah, that's an oopsy on my part. I usually go "Meh-Lay", though.

Sigil is pronounced with a hard "g". There's a "flavour text" quotation in one of the original Planescape box set sourcebooks which has someone telling a newbie to the Planes that having pronounced it "Sijil", he now has to die :D

Raiden. I don't know whether to say MGS2 Raiden or MK Raiden.

"Raiden" = long I.
"Rayden" = long A.

Pronounciation depends entirely on how it's rendered in text. Both forms are technically correct, referring to the Japanese god of thunder and lightning.

How do you pronounce Suikoden? you know the console RPG series?

I pronounce it: "Soo-ee-ko-den" sometimes but that sometimes gets corrupted to "Swee-ko-den"

"Swee-ko-den" is closer to correct anyway. Even though the phonetic spelling is "Soo-ee-ko-den", the "Su" sound gets very little emphasis, and when you say it quickly the vowels blend together.

Dipthongization.

Correctly.
