Can your computer handle the newer PC games?

In the last year, I've spent long hours playing a couple of games from Troika/Activision: Temple of Elemental Evil and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. I've also gotten some friends hooked on these games by letting them try them out on my computer. Sadly, some of them have bought one or the other, only to find that they lacked the RAM to play.

my father is a self-taught computer geek, so i have access to a lot of computers. on the highest end/best machine we had (no idea of the stats) a few years after the game came out even, i tried freedom force.

loaded no problem. played through the unavoidable 7 minute intro no problem. but i could only ever get through the tutorial in slow motion, and the game would freeze after that. after sitting through the intro for the 10th time due to re-installing the game, i quit trying.

methinx i'll stick with consoles.

For some reason my comp won't play the cinemas in Rome: Total war without getting all choppy and stupid, but it handles the battles just fine. It does crash when a fight's about to start sometimes though.

Before i doubled my ram, i simply couldn't run Everquest 2 or Half Life two without insane stuttering (However, Doom 3 ran pretty much ok), but, i fixed the problem and now it's smooth sailing.

Mine can, I bought it with that specific intent in mind.

On medium and some high settings my PC can run pretty much anything without any problems. It's a couple years old (from 01 or 02), and the only thing I've changed is the video card, which is still nowhere near top of the line, and the memory.

I guess it could if I could figure out why the heck my AMD 3000+ processor is only running at a gig when it should be running it's proper two.

(Oh, and this was also my "subtle" way of asking if anybuddy could help)

The only game my computer won't run, so far, is Deus Ex: Invisible War... and that's only because the idjit designers only made it compatible with the most high end 3-D cards.

I'm buying a new PC soon, mostly for video editing amongst other things, so expect it to run the newer games just fine. Don't know for how long, though...

Something to do with your BIOS probably, google it and you'll find an answer for what you need to change.

No way. My sound card and video card both suck. And I could use more RAM.

But then again I'm pretty strictly a console gamer. I'm not really looking to do any gaming on my PC.

No way. My sound card .
Now THAT i have a problem with, Half Life 2, the sound stutters, randomly, even when nothings going on.
But other times it works fine.
...actually, im not sure what that means, because the game runs fine, happened in that Vampire:Bloodlines game too.

I get a brief sound stutter during LaCroix's speech during the intro, and sometimes I get a sound stutter as a saved game is loading, but otherwise Vampire: Bloodlines has been running well on my computer.

I love building and upgrading computers, so naturally my computer is normally very well prepared for the next wave of games. I got a Nvidia 6800 Ultra for my Christmas (well, I'm normally an ATI fanboy, but I think Nvidia has this generation of cards sewn up. Plus I wasnt exactly gonna turn it down) and I'll be putting another Gig of Corsair PC4000 RAM into my machine during the Summer.

Itsa not so much a stutter as...trying to think of how ti describe it.
It sounds like he's talking into a vacuum.

Heh, no way my computer is able to handle the newest games, but I have housemates with uptodate computers that can easily be bribed/charmed into letting me abuse their machines for games.
