View Full Version : Curious about Animal Man
I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the Animal Man series that came out in '88. I know a few things about it, such as it lasted 89 issues. And it became labeled as a Vertigo title sometime after the 50th issue.
But does anyone know exactly which issue it went to the Vertigo imprint? And does it deal with the same characters as it did in the beginning because a few of the covers from issues 51-89 are very different from the earlier ones. Any help would be great.

I am not sure what issue it went over to Vertigo but even in the begining it felt like a Vertigo book. The first 20 some odd issues were done by Grant Morrison and area must read.
I think all of Mr. Morrisons run has been collected in trades also. That would be the best place to start.

From what I understand Millgan's arc after Morrison's run is pretty good too but everything after that is kind of lame.

Isn't Milligan's arc yet to be collected?

There is no TPB of Milligan's arc, and no indication that it will ever exist.
Thanks for the help. I'll see what I can find from Morrison's run with the series.

Very true, but it's probably not that hard to track down the singles if you were that interested.

IIRC, issue 51 was the start of the Vertigo stuff, it took place just after Animal Man and Vixen find out they where Animal Master.

Aside from Morrison's run (which is conveniently available in trades) none of it is that hard to pick up in singles. I've gotten an almost-complete post-GM run of it that way (I'm missing, I believe, one or two issues.)

We just covered this ground a few days ago...check the "Animal Man Post-Morrison " thread:

And I too have found back issues easy to find, and generally cheap.
