As far as I know, China has an animation industry.

China has its own cartoons, and they're actually called cartoons ("ka tong") after the English term. For the most part, these are geared more toward younger children (more like the equivalents of Garfield and Duck Tales), so you're not likely to find anything with depth like out of animes such as Lain or Ghost in the Shell. A lot of them are actually educational cartoons geared to help little kids learn math or vocab or the moral of the day. Some are retellings of or inspired by various folktales and myths.
Some American cartoons are also widely watched. I remember seeing Captain Planet, Smurfs, and such on TV, and there's a lot of Disney DVDs/VCDs in the stores. Ditto for Japanese anime, except they're not shown on TV.

there was a cartooon called monkey magic which was basically a conversion of the journey to west story from china. the monkey king and everthing was in the cartoon. at the time i thought it was stupid till i realized what it was about. now i wish to see it again. anyway the story is chinese myth so tht might have been made in china.

The concept of Chinese Children being shown the Smurfs at a young ages is so perfect. Its like we made communist propaganda for them!
