I was really into Spawn when it came out, I had issues #1-50. However, at that point I realized that in FIFTY issues almost nothing at happened with the character. Sure, he fought villains and all the usual stuff, but zero character development over a four-year span really pushed me to drop it. I think Todd needs to stop thinking he can write comics, there is a reason he became a superstar, and it wasnt his scripting skills.

I've read Spawn from the beginning. I've continued to buy it up until the present (despite it's problems). I think I did this for consistency-sake in my own mind more than anything (ie, I already had all of the comics, so why not just pick it up as well). There have been some very, very boring issues since 100 and reading Spawn felt like wading through a bog for several years.

I have to say that the last 6 or so issues has gotten me interested again. Recently, the Violator and Redeemer has made a come-back (he was always my favorite villians), and its been fun to read once more.

It's all personal taste. McFarlane has the tendency to turn alot of folks off, and that can ruin Spawn for them. I try to ignore all of that, if I can.

While Spawn will never have the effect on the comic industry that McFarlane wants (or thinks) it does, it's been a good read lately.

Actually Spawn has made a big come-back in my opinion to the point where it is now one of the more under-rated books on the markets.

If you think that's crazy . . . "Sam and Twitch: Case Files" is even better and is making a serious run at being my favorite title.

Too bad Spawn doesn't get any exposure anymore because one thing I've noticed in this industry is that without buzz it's very easy for a bad book that was turned around to start selling again.

What Todd needs to do is to hire the one of the hottest writers or artists in the industry for a one year stint or something. Once some new readers hop on board, then they will be there for good.

I agree with this! I mean, what was one of the most talked about Spawn issues when it first came out? Issue 9 (?) written by Neil Gaimen, that introduced Angela.

McFarlane reminds me alittle of George Lucas. He has really cool ideas and can come up with a great general plot outline, but isn't as good at execution of those ideas. He's got Brian Holguin (I think?) basically writting right now, and he's actually doing a decent job, but they need to light a spark under this title again to get it back to where it was back at the beginning.

I also agree that it has gotten much better lately.

Just realized that I didn't respond to this question before.

I thought issue 144 was great. By Mammon removing all of Spawn's memories of Wanda and most of his past as Al Simmons, there is the potential for this character to start to develop in a whole new direction. I've always thought the Redeemer was very cool, so to have him in these last few issues has really been a treat.

Furthermore, there is the impending conflict between Mammon and Cogliostro (sp?). If Brian Holguin and Toddy Mac can keep the story moving and not fall into this habit of going nowhere that Spawn has suffered from in the past, things could really get interesting! First time I've been excited about Spawn in several years.

I think you're going to regret that move. I see a comeback, Spawn is actually good quality now, once the comic masses realize that, the title will be back to being a top title.

Spawn´s quite a mistery. It´s boring me to tears each and every month, but I still keep buying it. Hmmm, a curse? Curse of the Spawn! :D
