Need some advice. Vampire Hunter D is on sale here in Dublin, I've never seen it, I'm curious to do so - but I know no one who has even come within spitting distance of watching it. Is it recommended? And the sequel?

the first one, i dunno. It was done in there 80's so it's animation is completely unlike Bloodlust. Plus the sequel is MUCH better in my opinion.

I love Bloodlust, its music, it's story, it's animation. It just plain kicks ass.

Both are worth buying, in my opinion.

Cheers man. I'm desperate to find other Manga I like apart from obviously Akira and GitS:Standalone Complex!

Both VHD movies are well worth watching. The original is pretty old and not as dazzling in its animation quality, but I think the story's a bit better.

Definitely get the second VHD film!

It was animated by Madhouse, one of the best. Directed by Yoshi Kawajiri (Ninjas Scroll, Demon City Shinjuku, Wicked City, Bio Hunter), one of my favorite anime directors around.

The storyline is pretty straightforward though, but good. Nothing too complex. There's a twist between the leading antagonist and another character that you'll like.

The character designs by Yutaka Minowa based off of Yoshitaka Amano's works were faithful and very well adapted.

The visuals are very beautiful and even has a decent to good English soundtrack. Be aware that the English language is actually the original. Recently a Japanaese dub version was released over in Japan also. Plus, the Region 1 DVD soundtrack is in 5.1, not 2.0. Also, some pretty good action scenes if you're a Ninja Scroll fan.

I've already seen the 80's one and thought it was pretty decent. But yeah, the animation is dated.

Defitly partake. You should get both, the first one explains everything, and D seems more human in that one. The animation is 80ish but it is still farly good, but the story and action more that make up for it, heck I dare say its bloodier than the second. The second takes place some time after when humanity starts to drive the vamps back, the story is straight forward, but the writing is great, I was in awe after watching it, not just from that but the dizzing spectatcular visuals,I recommend both VHD's to any anime fan.

Cheers folks, saw it on the weekend. I have to say I loved the sarcastic talking hand. But yes, an interesting take on vampires. Enjoyed
