You know, at first, when I saw that Black Mask of all people was going to become the new king of Gotham's underworld and join the rogue a-list, I was pretty pessimistic about it. But lately, in "Batman"...I've really started to enjoy him. His interaction with Freeze and the rest of his flunkies has been pretty entertaining so far.

I think I can get used to him as a major threat to Bats.

The way he writes Black Mask is the best part of Winick's Batman. He's actually a likable villain there.

...Even if it goes against the way he was an utterly sadistic psycho in Catwoman and in War Games tortured a whole bunch of people to death, including Stephanie Brown.

I have officially jumped onto this bandwagon.

Winnick + Blackmask = enjoyable

I've found myself really enjoying his interactions in the book.

Black Mask is starting to grow on me. Judd's doing something right. Now if he'd get his act together on Outsiders.

I don't think it goes against anything. It's just now, Black Mask can hire underlings to do the torturing for him. :)

He's gonna learn a whole new definition for "torture" when The Society comes a-lookin' for that 100 lbs. of Green K.

I don't think the former presentations of Black Mask take anything away from the current adaptation. If anything, his past makes the sharp wit in Winick's books even more delightfully wicked.

Sick, twisted, and charismatic... exactly what I want from a Batman villain.

I really like Black Mask since Brubaker's revamp of him. It's refreshing
to see a mobster style Bat villain that isn't a bumbling fool.

forget Hush! Black Mask is the new villian to beat!

The kid has potential.

I like Winnick's take on him.

Me too. I'm really enjoying Black Mask, oh yeah, and Batman too. I love having Nightwing teaming up with Batman currently as well. Great stuff. A sick twisted guy with a skull for a face...well we've seen that before, but one that is funny too. Yeah a new twist on things. I'm enjoying Winnick's Batman a lot.

Hey, at least he's not a Nazi. Or colored red.

It does seem to get away from his more, well, for lack of a better term, shakepearean depiction, and into something a bit more fun. Besides writing a good Batman, Winick's Black Mask makes the book all the more enjoyable.

I'm not convinced that Black Mask is all that entertaining. He just comes off as a more coherent Joker. I just don't buy him as a viable Ultimate Crime Boss
of Gotham. He just seemed to be forced onto us.

Am I enjoying Black Mask? Sure -- more with each issue. My problem is that he shouldn't even be around right now. Written correctly, Batman woulda already gone after him & gotten him for murdering Steph. Oh waitaminnit, I forgot, Batman not only would lose in a fight against Black Mask, Black Mask would kill him...

Push over on the band wagon! Black Mask cracks me up - he's a pretty amusing for a psychopath. Why does Batman get all the good villans?

Personally, when it comes to Gotham mob bosses, I'll take Black Mask over Penguin. Penguin is about the only Bat-rogue I don't like. Always came off so lame to me.

I'm diggin' the Black Mask, nice to have a villain that can be funny yet scary in the same breath.

That is true. I'm hoping to see a back story about Black Mask as why he was able to go toe to toe with Batman at the end of War Games. And to see some more of his darker nature, as in torturing people.
Penguin sucks. I'm hating him in the current arc in Detective. It's a large reason why I've dropped the title.

Count me among those who have been liking Black Mask ever since the Brubaker story in Catwoman.

When he makes someone eat their lovers' eyes, it is hard not to like him as a villain.

I like Black Mask as a bad guy, but this is nothing new. For years, I've thought he had tremendous potential and I wanted to see him get an expanded role. He's one of the best gangster characters in comics.

I too am another one who has liked since the catwoman story. But then anything had to be to be better then repeated stories of him having a grudge against Bruce Wayne and kidnapping him before being betrayed by Circe.

Is it sick and twisted that we all seem to like that sort of thing? The most entertaining villians are also the sickest.

Yeah, the only thing I've ever read about him was either back in NML or all the way back in Knightfall/Quest/End. I don't remember too much, but I thought he was stupid. This cat is cool. (Evil? or Cool? My English is a little fuzzy here).

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I JUST got Batman #638 and I'm officially on the bandwagon, if just for the "I swear to god, it's like trying to run a criminal organization with my MOTHER." line.

Yeah, i'm on the bandwagon, too. It's nice to see a dangerous Batrogue with a sense of wit.
I'm fond of the Penguin, but when badly written he can be extremely lame. I still see a Black Mask vs. Penguin story in the future.
