Cap, Iron Man, Thor and now Spidey are too recognized for their looks to warrant change.

They all have red on them, all you would need is to coordinate the second color, in fact, if Iron Man would switch to Red/Blue, they would pretty much match.

Also, I dont think Thor's looks is as recognized as the others, I think you can mess with his costume more freely than the others since hes a god.

No. "All-star" teams don't wear the same uniform.

Ugh...and soon will come mentions of the infamous "jackets".

mmm No thanks , i dont even agree yet with xmen getting matching uniforms :D . Especially when someday , again , someone will have the bright idea to drop the spandex and go for ugly jackets (until of course someone bring back the spandex.... again..) .

More seriously i usually dislike seeing the look of a character being dictated by its team .

Alan2099

Look at the roster. Sentry has to ahve a Superman like get up. Ironman needs his armor, Cap and Spidey both have a iconic look. I can't think of any type of uniform that would suit them all.

The whole team would look strange in matching uniforms to me. I say, leave them be.

Why did someone invoke the jackets?

The Avengers are a team because of who they are, not what they wear. Unnessecary and silly.

Maybe in a Bizzaro-universe BMB book...

In this universe, I think we'd be more likely to see Wolverine switch to sweatpants than we would matching uniforms...

They would all have to match Cap's uniform... and then they would look really odd.

They would all have to match Cap's uniform... and then they would look really odd.

1. That's an excellent reason to avoid matching costumes.

2. Bad idea to color-coordinate Spider-man and Spider-Woman. It was bad enough putting them on the same team, but giving them similar costumes would really diminish Spider-Woman, making her seem like a mere side-kick.

3. While it already boggles the imagination to include Wolverine on this team, the idea that he would don a new uniform just to fit in is really pushing it.

4. Luke Cage is barely able to tolerate wearing a costume, he's going to draw the line against wearing a uniform.

5. What's the point of stuffing so many popular characters on this team if you will change their looks to resemble each other? Defeats the whole marketing strategy.

I'd like to see a scene where they're training together and are all in matching uniforms. And no one likes them, but it was Aunt May's idea so no one says anything. And the training uniforms would have to be hideous, and have someone crack a joke about joining Alpha Flight for a better suit.

But a bunch of superheroes, established on their own, coming together to face a big threat has no reason to all suddenly change into matching costumes. Though they should at least get unstable molecule costumes as a bonus for being an Avenger, at least give Spidey a break so he's not out there in the tights he has to keep sewing together himself.

Yeah but only if they wear read and blue. Picture them all wearing red and blue like spidey and cap. That would be tight.

If by "tight" you mean "utterly horrible and an affront to my eyes," then yes, that would be "tight" indeed.

Didn't they, the original Avengers, have a jacket? I remember Black Knight wearing one style of jacket that was brown with an A on it, if I remember correctly. It was done during the Tom Palmer inking period, I believe.

Kirk G

Nahh, I think that only works well with the FF and the X-Men.
Yeah, I'm with you, Will S.....
The FF is almost completely coordinated... (except for when Torch wore that awful red body suit in "honor" of the original torch... Good thing they ditched it.) And there's enough variety in the four member team that they are distinctive. Ben's bare chest and orange rocky texture gives great contrast in a group photo.

As for the X-men... the original Blue-Black and Yellow uniforms were a great unifying factor when they started AS TEENS AT A SCHOOL.... but by issue #39... they had graduated to individual outfits expressing their adult independance, and I have to think that eventually is a good idea. See the New Mutants, in their school uniforms when their run started.... There is something about a catholic school uniform that contains and levels all the students that I like... but when you graduate... you get your own colors. That's why I always liked the New Xmen's distinctive adult costumes, cause they all echoed each other's dark blue, red and black outfits, except I never liked Marvel Girl's GREEN that didn't fit...and Angle's YELLOW didn't fit... but I do think his next angle outfit with the white breast and blue stripe body suit did work really well...

So, this brings us to the Avengers....
Yes, the aviator leather jacket era was interesting, and a nice unifying touch, but it's day is passed... and each of these heroes are individual adult heroes in their own right, so I don't think they should have much in common, except for those nifty Avengers priority calling cards and the A logo which appeared on their gear.

So, I vote no conforming uniforms. They aren't teens at school any more...

Well, no one wants the uniforms, but there seems to be a nice grass roots campaign going for them battling crime in the buff. :D

I voted for them to keep their own look, but what about the idea of a patch (or 'badge') with a 'A' logo or something that they all could put on their costumes (Luke on his jacket -- dude, change your clothes once in a while...)? That would allow then all to keep their identities yet still show their affiliation with the team. Just a thought that occurred to me in me drunken stupor. Please forgive...;)

So keep the diffrent looks, i don't ting some kind of standard uniform will make Avengers better in any way.

I see the team as indivuals who work together. I really don't think matching uniforms would mesh with most incarnations of the Avengers.

the current team, well for at least one more issue, seems to have a cohesive color scheme. red, blue, white and yellow.

but in general, i don't think they need a "team look" didn't mind the jackets, but seemed like they went in on a deal with xavier's for a wholesale deal.

Yeah, one complaint I sort of have with the New Avengers is the abundance of primary colors altogether as a team.

For some reason I just like a very different coloring scheme per member (almost a rainbow of colors I guess) since it gives them a big visual pizzaz.

If the Avengers wore a matching costumes, they might give the wrong impression that they are some kind of vigilante police force. The separate unique costumes allows the Avengers to keep their own individual identities & give the Avengers a star quality.

I think that Avengers are only loosely tied together because they still will go back to their old team and I think it lets them be theirselves and not conform to what their leader wants. I don't know if that makes any sense at all.

I do want them to keep their individual costumes, though, it's just annoying. They should add some new members to spice up the color scheme. Make Ms. Marvel an official member and bring back She-Hulk and Hawkeye.

Anyway, yeah, I prefer the individual looks for the Avengers. However, for those following along with Project CBRunway, the final challenge is to design cohesive yet individual costumes for several Avengers. I'll let you all know once voting begins.

the great thing about avengers is theyre individuality and giving them uniforms takes away from that.

brundlefly
08-19-2006, 07:47 PM
No, it takes away from the individuality of the characters. And frankly the X-Men look like idiots in matching uniforms; they're not a sports team or a gang. Always liked the X-Men better in their individual costumes as well. Leave the matching outfits to the uniformity of SHIELD and HYDRA.

I liked the jackets aswell though they looked best on the women Sersi looked really cool with hers on. I think the last time they were seen was when Triathlon wore one when he was just hanging around the mansion. Think it was in Alan Davis's first Avengers issue but cant be sure.

Alan2099

The jackets looked good on the women and Black Panther, but I wouldn't want them to be a require part of the costume.
