Well, sort of OT. Can you spot another shot that looks quite similar to one from Hellboy (also heavily used in the HB trailers)?

haha yeah i seen that part and was like "what the shit" ,but when you think about it they had one of those shots in the two towers when gandalf was whoppin the balrogs ass. I'm kinda conflicted cuz up until i seen that trailer, I was going to boycott but that trailer may have changed my mind..

I , for one, am personally stoked for the movie. Fantastic Four was the first comic I ever read in 1977, at the tender age of seven. It was an issue with Salem's Seven, and I still own it to this day. I have waited forever for someone to make a movie to do it justice.
" Flame On..." it gave me chills...

I have waited forever for someone to make a movie to do it justice. The real question is... will they really do it any justice? Although in my heart of hearts I'm excited for the film, I'm also uncertain as to its sucess. They're been plenty of comic movie adaptations that could have been GREAT, but ended up sucking due to bad acting or poor production values (daredevil, the hulk, punisher, etc).

Anyhow, I hope your childhood fantasies come true instead of it being yet another blockbuster stinker

Daredevil, The Hulk, and The Punisher: I don't think these movies had bad acting or poor production values (100 million dollar movies do NOT have poor production values). They just had awful stories. The X-Men movies could have easily been terribly cheesy but the story (and sub-plots) really did a great job of driving them. Hellboy could have been superbly hokey, but a good story with lots of heart paved the way.

They've already dumped tens of millions more into the FF movie because The Incredibles was so...well, incredible (and Pixar beat 'em to it) so we'll see if throwing money at it makes it better. My expectations are pretty low though.

I am really anticipating the FF movie now, after having seen the trailers. The FF are extremely close to my heart, and it is one of the few superhero books that I can still get sucked back into after all these years. Funny, but the early buzz I read about the movie left me expecting a big stinker. The visuals in the trailers are looking pretty cool though, I must say. I hope they pull it off-- the FF deserve a good movie after all these years.

I didn't see Punisher, but I very much liked both Hulk and Daredevil. I have yet to hear a reasoned critique as to why these movies supposedly suck. Admittedly, I have never been a reader of their respective comics, so there must be some integral element from the comics that was missing from the movies. Still, I know enough about the Marvel Universe to know that the basic elements were covered and treated seriously. Can anyone enlighten me without driving Jonell insane?

Not sure if this was stated before, but the reason I'm grating against the F4 movie is that the main villian is actually Fantastic #5. Dr. Doom is on the ship, get's hit by cosmic rays and get the power to make metal skin.

That's soooooooooooooooooooo deviates from the core structure of the F4 story.

That's like saying Anakin Skywalker uses his jedi powers to create his Darth Vader suit!

No. :) However, I'll say this: any movie that puts me to sleep in the middle of it gets an automatic thumbs down. Both these movies did just that. The last thing I wanna do is go to a movie theater and pass out.

If it counts for anything, I heard Frank Miller on NPR way back when say he liked Daredevil, though it stole so much from his run of DD comics that he said "I felt like it was watching me more than I was watching it" which I always thought was an interesting statement.

Thing looks a little strange. Sort of sewn together like frankensteins monster rather than living rock.

Ill watch it though. Even if I wait till it's on dvd.

That's usually a good criteria for me, too. Except that I kept nodding off watching Phantom of the Opera on Broadway-- does that mean "Phantom" sucks, or was I tired as hell before I even showed up at the theater? I also fell asleep the first three times I rented Kubrick's 2001. Is that a bad film too? ;)

The plot for this movie is based on the "Ultimate" FF, which included Doom on the rocket, I believe (another series I've never read, any of the "Ultimate" titles).

The Thing goes through a few different looks in the movie, owing a lot to the way Jack Kirby drew him in the beginning. Many of the old Marvel "monster" characters drew heavily on Frankenstein for inspiration.

In my personal fantasy, Victor Von Doom wills himself into the real world and terminates with extreme predjudice everyone involved in portraying him with an American accent. And then maybe anyone else involved with this movie, depending on the quality of said move.

And then he probably takes over the world.

Well, it works for me. If I'm riveted by a movie, it doesn't matter how tired I might be. I'm there with my eyes wide open. As for Phantom, well...I don't like that musical so, yeah...it sucks. :)

I was kind of stupified by The Hulk. It's like the worlds first Superhero Art Movie. The setup takes one billion years, but then there's all this weird father/sun imagery and oedipal crap and anyway... yeah. Good movie? I have no idea.

But the Phantom of the Opera does suck.

Sorry, not impressed. Batman Begins may be good (I give it more of a chance than FF) but King Kong will be epic! If you have a couple of hours to kill, check out the production diaries at Kong is King (http://www.kongisking.net/index.shtml)

his entire body is becoming metal, but his face will most likely be spotted and scarred with flesh and metal, but the mask is a seperate peice, its a Latverian Warrior mask, he had that and put that on to hide his face

No, I'm positively sure that the new King Kong will be groundbreaking, i was just saying that Batman Begins has more appeal to me then King Kong being as how i am a HUGE Batman fan, no disrespect meant, to each his own :)

Edit:I didn't know Peter Jackson was directing, now i'm ABSOLUTELY positively sure that this movie will be a mammoth

Three more words for you; JAR JAR BINKS (in Revenge of the Sith)! ;) Not sure why SW: RTS hasn't been mentioned as a favorite summer movie yet. Perhaps it's because Lucas spanked us all so brutely hard with Ep 1 and 2 in the last few years, and now people are gun shy about getting excited for the last movie in the Trilogy?

I will say though that both King Kong and Batman Begins are on my MUST SEE list this year. Batman because it's Nolan, Bale, and a darker Batman (better than Batman Returns I sincerely hope) than we've seen in years, and Kong because it's Peter Jackson! Anyway, this summer should be full of great movies, so get out there and see em' kiddies!

Better than ALL the existing movies, I hope. The best Batman movie so far made was animated (Mask of the Phantasm).

Doom being on the ship doesn't bother me, nor does the metal skin. Particularly since it would seem that Doom still wears a mask instead of the mask being his face. And since he is so disfigured by the transformation that it drives him mad... it is still pretty close to the origin in the comics. (Reed and Victor colaborating on a scientfic venture that goes horribly awry and disfigures Victor, causing him to hate his former friend and colleage).

And the snippets of dialogue we have heard so far make it hard to tell what accent Victor has.

No, I remain cautiously optimistic until this comes out and I can see the whole movie from beginning to end. Several times. ;)

Seeing that trailer really did make me excited for the FF movie. Micheal Chiklis is a perfect Thing, maybe a little short, but I remember being pissed that Hugh Jackman is over 6' to Wolverine's 5'3", I got over that so Thing's height doesn't bother me... The deviations from the comic for the FF film don't bother me too much either, so far everything looks great but who knows until one actually sees the film? I'll save my judgements until I see it. :)

I dunno, all the actors just seem so young and hip to me, which I think is just the antithesis of the Fantastic Four. The only real way I could get psyched about this is if it were a period piece set in the sixties. Now that would be hot.

Although now that I watch the trailer a few more times, maybe Reed will prove suficiently geeky. And the special effects do look pretty nice.

But Doom totaly has an American accent, and that's just wrong. Not that I know what a Latverian accent sounds like but it ain't that. The guy has none of the evil self-assured semi-noble majesty of Von Doom. He just seems to be another cardboard power hungry maniacal buisness man. And that ain't cool. Don't mess with Doom.

All that aside, I'll see this if the reviews are good. Just not holding out much hope.

Most - if (truthfully) not all of my FF experience comes from watching the "amimated" (woof - ya call that animation???) Saturday morning show but even with THAT heavy filter DOOM was something special -a dire and potent and overwrought and primma-donnaish and definitely NOT American entity. as a little KID I knew this.

I didn't see Punisher either, I liked Hulk, and hated DareDevil, mainly because it was horribly directed, it had some major plot holes (if he's all extra accrobabtic and no one can get a good hit on him, and he's wearing that leather how did he accumulate all those scars on his back, and how did he get that tooth knocked out in the first battle.)

Also, it was way too much of a sound track, it seemed every scene had overbearing music being played at full blast. I didn't like Jennifer Garner, and I didn't like the leather suit.

I'm not so sure Doom has an american accent

I remember from one of the MANY trailors and/or behind the scenes clips that i heard the part where all five of them are in that press conferance before they go up into space and Victor is speaking, he had a European-esque accent, not sure what Latverian is supposed to sound like, but i'm positive i heard an accent on him

I'm too lazy to post the audio from the trailers, but Doom's accent sounds American if I ever heard one.

I believe the only thing confirmed was that he would indeed be foreign, but I don't believe anything was conclusively said about his accent. It could be said that he was raised in the US from childhood and thus has no accent. Ofcourse, if enough of an uproar is made about it, it's nothing that couldn't be fixed with a little ADR.

For those interested. Exhibit A is attached. Taken from my copy of UFF. It answers some of your questions about how the organic metal is handled in the comicbook re-imagining of Doom's suit.
