Ok, just out of curosity....
Which summer "event" are you looking forward to most? Marvel's "House of M" or DC's "Countdown?" Both? Neither? Another one I neglected to mention?
Let your voice be heard! :D

Please remind me which is which - what's the "big hook" about each of them? I admit to being biased against Countdown, because doesn't it stem from Identity Crisis, the effects of which are a creeping miasma seeping into the entire DCU??

I am more interested in the House of M because of Bendis and Coipel. The DC Countdown projects don't have any creative teams I care about.

I'm actually surprised to be typing this, but House of M holds more interest for me right now. Not really excited about all the mini-series that are spinning out of this storyline, but I'm going to get the main story by Bendis and Copiel.

I am not excited by either. And I fear both series taking hold of titles I am currently enjoying and making them less enjoyable.
I wish these things didn't increase sales so that companies would not do them.

I'm excited about both for different reasons.
I'm excited about the actual House of M mini-series, because I think that the creative team of Bendis and Coipel is a fantastic one. Ever since Marvel announced that Coipel was signed to a exclusive, and that he was one of their "Young Guns" I've been wondering what he was doing, besides the occasional issue of Uncanny X-men. So to hear that he's penciling House of M is awesome.
I'm also looking forward to the DC Countdown stuff because I think that this might be the rare crossover "event" that's actually results in good stories. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think that each miniseries sounds pretty good, especially the Villians United mini by Gail Simone.
So, I'm looking forward to both events.

My feelings are a blend of Patricia's and Kevin's respective posts. I don't know anything about either event, because quite frankly, I cannot envision a universe in which I care.
Wow. I just realized what a negative and depressing sentence that is. OK. Over the past two decades I have become so saturated with crossovers that I have developed a kneejerk reaction to them. I don't care who is working on it, which books it involves, what the story is; I just want to stick my fingers in my ears and go "BLAH BLAH BLAH" until it goes away. Ironic since Zero Hour got me into soooo many DC titles.
I love Rucka, and Bendis and Winick are damn high on my list of favorite writers. Both events could turn out to be great stories in their own rights. I just want them to go away and not interfere with any of the books I normally read. Basically, a pre-WWII US foreign policy approach.

I'm a Marvel guy, but definately Countdown. Does House of M really need all those derivative miniseries and tie-ins? Can't wait to read Villains United...

I honestly don't know what either "event" is supposed to be about. Granted, I haven't gone out of my way to find out either. I think one of them has Batman in it and the other one has Wolverine. Or something.
i think my 'events' more have to do with the indies and what is going on in them.
I know, I know, horrible english! ;)

I've never heard of House of M

I've been asking myself this question lately, and I still have no answer. I'm mildly annoyed by the both of them. But of the two, it's the House of M I'm most likely to actually read. It's my own Marvel bias, plus an enjoyment of the works of Brian Bendis.

Did any of you notice the changes to Spidey's costume on the back cover to this month's Marvel Previews?
Take a closer look! (http://www.newsarama.com/WizWorldLA05/Marvel/Presentation/SMHoM.jpg)
In case you coldnt' tell, I voted for "M" but that's just because I'm much more of a Marvel fan. And I've very interested to see what happens to Spidey in all of this! I know Bendis said they'll be HUNDREDS of characters in the main series and that just wets my appetite for this.
I'm sure anyone could get by without the outside mini's, but I'll probablly get them anyway. They're keeping a tight lid on exactly what is gonna happen, so I'm not sure why Iron Man is getting a mini (other than Adi Granov is taking a LOT of time getting out the regular book).
As for Countdown, there's no way I'm passing up a book for $1 with an Alex Ross/Jim Lee cover but I'm not going to be getting all of those mini's. Perhaps if I hear good things I'll get tpb's later, but I don't need all the individual issues. Of all those DC teams I am very interested in seeing Justiniano's (sp?) return to pencilling! I haven't seen him get any work since his CHAOS! days. And he is top-notch! :)
I think the "hook" to DC's books vary depending on each series. The OMAC books is supposed to start like 30 seconds after the Countdown book ends and has mostly to do with Batman and how the "memory lapse" is affecting him - or him hunting down what happened in those few minutes. I'm unsure about the others though. Some of yo liked the Adam Strange series, and I think that continues in the Rann/Thanagar War. Here's some links:

I'm with you on much of this, Jamie. I'll be picking up the first COUNTDOWN book to see how they do in a favorite character. But that's about all I want to do with it. OMAC is tempting, just because I want to see what Rucka is doing with Sasha next. Argh
Everything else, though, I can leave.
As to Spider-Man's costume: I hope it's not permanent. I can deal with the spider pattern on his back, but those boots look twisted around, and the webbing on the back of his hand is, I'm sure, easier to draw, but ugly. Maybe I'll get used to it. Or maybe this is just the Spider-Man of Wanda's Alternate Reality or something.

I'll see your "argh" and raise you a "Grr...."
I really liked Sasha, and was complaining a few months ago that she was one of those characters in character "limbo." She's Rucka's creation, so who knows if anyone is going to even try anything with her....
::sigh::
Okay. In order to read COUNTDOWN, what's the situation - do you have to read the entire crossover with all the titles? Does it lead directly into OMAC PROJECT? Is there something that should be read *prior* to COUNTDOWN in order to not be confused?
I'll probably end up picking up separate issues of both, not reading all of the invovled titles, and being totally confused and frustrated. :)

Count me as one of the folks hoping the House of M minis are just extensions of Wanda's mind/reality altering (I really don't know as I don't read Avengers) powers. That costume is hideous.
Regarding Countdown, I've done a good job of avoiding the spoilers, but if they off Ted Kord, I'm really going to be

I'm not really feeling the love/hate for Spidey's costume yet. I haven't even seen the front of it! But the fact that he doesn't seem to have a red band around his waist kinds throws me off a little. The webbing on the bug on the back is cool though.
BronteJD: My understanding is that you can read them all seperately. I think the $1 book starts it off, but they all go off on their own stories. Like, big things were happening in different corners of the DCU and they are tieing them togather. It seems like it's more of a big lead in to this fall's "Infinite Crisis."
This article may help you some (http://newsarama.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30235). If anything, knowledge of Identity Crisis may help.

Knowledge of IDENTITY CRISIS should never be considered a good thing in any way. ;-)
I think OMAC, though, springs most directly from the pages of this week's COUNTDOWN book. IIRC.
Ack, I need to read a novel or two. Maybe I'll just sit the summer out.

Countdown, and I'll buy all of the minis involved, but probably not much of the regular titles.
I don't buy any new Marvel books b/c I just don't "get it" anymore...:-( I think my feelings echo those of De Carabas, especially relating to Marvel. Growing up I was a Marvel Zombie of the highest order. My whole feeling with everything Marvel has solicited over the past 5 or 6 years is just "I've read this before - and it was better the first 2 or 3 times." Very cynical, yes. And, I might be missing something -- the only Brian Bendis Marvel book I've ever read was Ultimate Team-Up, and that was for the artists they got!

I didn't really read the solicit text before ordering this - it's nothing to do with Kirby's OMAC though, right?
