If the movie ends with Spider-Man sucking him up with a vacum... it will kill the Spider-Man movies. It works in the comics but it'll be a flat ending if they do it on the movies.

It'll be cool to see the fight scenes.

I wonder how they'll explain his origin?

I love the Spider-Man movies, I can't wait!

"one of the old villains" can easily be translated to the films. "one of the new" like Venom would require some serious overhaul to the origin & such to make it fly. If they make it a lab experiment like Ultimate Spider-Man, then you'll have fanboys groaning about how it's the third experiment-gone-wrong villain origin in a row; if you have John Jameson return from the Moon with the symbiote in tow, you're introducing aliens into Spidey's world which may not fly with the average audience member.

That said, it's possible they'll make a convoluted origin to Sandman that'd make any Venom origin look simple :)

Personally, I'd love to see a BUNCH of Spidey villains as throw-away fights during a montage, like Rhino, Scorpion, Electro. No Sinister Six, just some more colorful villains who AREN'T movie-carrying threats necessarily on their own (case can be made that Scorpion & Electro could be, but they don't HAVE to be, same with Sandman. Rhino's just a thug tho); seeing him stop bankrobbers is old hat now. Liven it up, and that way we won't need 20 Spidey films (which wouldn't happen anyway) to get through all his villains.

Hmm, an expensive choice.

But there are many villians they could choose, and hopefully we will see them all over the course of the movies (hopefully they will make loads).

But I would like to see the Lizard in the next movie, I think it could make a good story line.

Its funny because I originally thought he would be playing Quentin Beck aka Mysterio when I heard he was gonna be in it. Ah well

They'll have to come up with a new origin for Sandman... would "Lying in the sand where a bomb is being tested" really fly?

Good point :) As long as it's not an experiment in a lab...

Would be a cool villan to see in the movie. I would still like to see Venom the most, but this is good to. The thing is I dont know yet. I have seen other things that talk about someone like the Lizard being more likely and Blackcat may even be in the movie.

I love the Spidey/Sandman fights, but can't help wondering how well this would translate on screen. Not the fights, but the concept of Sandman and how this will relate to Peter, if at all. the first two films had emotional connections, but IMO Sandman doesn't provide that.
Hmmm, have to wait and see, hopefully there will be some changes to the characters background to help us out. I'd also like to see Sandman almost kill Spidey with Mj witnessing- so she realises how dangerous his life is. Plus, Aunt May finding out could be cool.
How weird, I find myself wanting more personal struggles for Spidey than massive battles. Then again, that's what Spidey's about.
I'd also like to see Spidey easily take down some supervillian at the start of the film, to establish Sandman as a major threat in comparisson.

That's pretty cool. What would make the greatest film ever is 2 or more villians. Maybe for #4, we could have a Sinister Six! Have Sandman, have Doc Ock come back, and introduce 4 more foes: Venom, Mysterio, Rhino, and Lizard.

Damn. I know it was never gonna happen, but even seeing a movie Venom would have been soooooo sweet. And my second choice was Electro. A bit dissapointing really. The first time I saw the S2 trailer and DockOck appeared I nearly p*ssed myself with excitement. I just dont see Sandman getting the same reactio. Also, if you ask non-comic fans about spidey villains apart from Ock and Goblin, I can't see many naming Sandman, as they wont know who the hell he is. But I can't complain. Raimi could make a good film with Aunt May as the villain

If you ask me,Sandman's to much of a "henchman" type villian.I mean, with today's computer technology they could probably pull it off and have it look okay(watch either of the "Mummy" movies for evidence)but I have my doubts as to wether Sandman will be entertaining as a lead villian, from a story point of view anyway.
They should A)Make him smarter and more diabolical(but that would probably be straying to far from the source material)or B)Make him a goon for another villian.Maybye Harry's become the Hobgoblin, and is pulling the strings from the shadows in tried and true Hobgoblin fashion.

And if they do that, they could probably do away with a long and arduous backstory for Sandman.A thug for hire with a mysterious past and even more mysterious powers.
Maybye after fighting Sandman a few times,Pete goes snooping on the internet and finds an old newspaper article about some accident or something, and how only one man suvived, but he soon dissapeared.......
Rather than donate a good half hour of screen-time to explaining Sandman's origin,in a way that probably wouldn't make sense anyway,it's explained(cryptically,so we can imagine the circumstances ourselves) in about five or so minutes.

I'm betting this Sand man will stray quite alot from the original and be quite updated . Anyway i'm personally happy it wont be venom , at least not for now . I was rooting for Electro or even the Vulture , but oh well maybe later...

I see his origin like this:

Sandman is at first a thief. Spiderman starts chasing the crook onto the beach. Turns out there's a testing of radiation starting and it hits the thief directly. He seems to have been vaporized so Peter leaves. Later he returns as the Sandman!

Visually, I think Sandman is one of the stronger villains in the rogues gallery. He'd make for a cool fight. They really will either have to completely overhaul his motivation or have someone pulling the strings though.

Well could make sense that Harry try again the hired help , in the person of Sandman , while struggling with the Goblin's serum and not decided yet to become the new goblin .

I'm not a fan of Sandman, but I have faith in Raimi as a director and Church as an actor, so I will hold judgement until it comes out.............

(guess i will be holding for quite some time :D )

You're more than likely 100% right.

Harry provides the emotional conflict and the overall "villainous plot".

Sandman will doubtless be an Osborn experiment used solely as muscle, so we get some new action instead of variations on the same Spider/Goblin fights from the first film.

Where? Any links?
Do you think he'll still wear the black & green hooped T-shirt?

This article (http://www.superherohype.com/news/spider-mannews.php?id=2808) suggests he's going to need to be pretty built for the role, so maybe.

Ooh. That could be cool. Sandman, like everyone's said, is potentially a great visual. As long as the filmmakers don't stick too close to the comic, this could be cool.

I'm relieved that it's Sandman.

It's so unfullfilling, it can't be the last Spiderman movie they make! :D

No, I'm just kidding. That sounds pretty cool.
