a great book put out by hyperwerks (and briefly by image comics)
they built up to a corssover between the two titles (deity/catseye). then-poof-the book and its creators vanished from the face of the earth
anyone know what became of them?

They just vanished. :D
I think they run out of money maybe?
I only know that Altstaetter went on to produce a comic version of Perry Rhodan (Germany's longest running pulp magazine) which was cancelled after 4 issues because it was... awful.

And then some news popped up some months ago, about a perferct collection of Deity at Image I think. There were talks about new stuff, too I think.
I know!
I dunno myself, they have been getting out the like, original 3 issues, I think tho.
It was an interesting, if not short, comic book run, with some potential.

Their website is still active ( http://www.hyperwerks.com/ ), but nothing seems to have been updated in the news section since November 2004.
The only person I can give you updates on is my friend Michael O'Hare, who was doing some Deity work. It's been awhile since I talked with him (we worked at Hasbro together), but he has been doing several Marvel books.
Of course, he did a couple of issues of Peter Parker: Spider-Man, but now you can find him doing issues of Marvel Age Spider-Man (and Team-Up), Tales of the Thing, and Marvel Age Fantastic Four Tales. Supposedly he also did an issue of Jubilee. The Free Comic Book Day Spider-Man Team-Up (with Fantastic Four) reprints his work if you want to check it out.
Michael's wesbite is out of date too (last news is 2003), but it's http://www.badcactus.com
