we all know that gg1 through gwen off a bridge and spidey killed her by snapping her neck while tryin to save her. But what if she was still alive? Would peter marry her? Would she get killed by someone else? what are your ideas?

That was a What If thing I think.

Uh, from where I come from, the Green Goblin, not Spider-Man, killer her.

Spider-Man has always wondered though if it was the shock or if it was his webline that caused her death.

I think she would have eventually gone to the sidelines the same way Liz Allen and Betty Brant did. There has only been one girl for Peter and she is Mary Jane.

But I loved Gwen back in the day, but she has been gone too long to really be that important.

Yeah but was she dead (due to shock) before her neck snapped? :)

Well thats goes back to the old thing were if someone was suiciding themself by jumping off a building and you shot them you killed them.

So i supposed we have three possible scenarios

She was already dead.

She was going to die but wasnt dead yet

and she was just out of it

2:3 spiderman killed her.

And yes they would have married. Thats why they killed her in the first place as it was the logical progression and they didnt want spiderman married.

The What If? story had Pete jump down and grab Gwen before firing a webline instead of just trying to catch her with the webbing. So at least according to the What If? Story, it was the webbing snapping the neck. That said, it was that or let her drop.

They got married, using a reference to the Peter Palmer mistake from Amazing Spider-Man #1, and then bad stuff that I can’t quite remember happened. It’s been too long since I read it to remember what happened, but either she ends up dying or she leaves him due to the Spidey stress, or something like that.

I certainly hope that she stays dead that sins past stunt made me wash my hands of spider books for the time being. (Well until the Mark Waid run of course) :)

I see it as that Norman started the whole scenario, so he killed Gwen.

isn't spider mans webing bouncy, sorta stretchy? wouldn't that negate the broken neck theory?

It’s been too long since I read it to remember what happened, but either she ends up dying or she leaves him due to the Spidey stress, or something like that. What happened was...after Peter saved Gwen, he stayed at her side while Goblin escaped. He was unmasked when Gwen woke up, and thus she found out that he was Spider-Man. He had to convince her that he wasn't responsible for her father's death(resulting from a battle with Doctor Octopus), and then asked her to marry him. She said yes, but he had to face off against Goblin. Spider-Man defeated Goblin and had him aprehended, but not before Goblin sent a package in the mail.

Peter and Gwen's wedding reception was then crashed by JJJ, who had received the package Norman Osborn gave him; a dossier on Spider-Man revealing his secret identity. JJJ led a bunch of cops to disrupt the nuptuals, shouting Peter's secret to the world. Peter was chased away by the cops, Aunt May fainted(obviously JMS didn't write this!), Gwen stayed behind to help May, Robbie Robertson told JJJ to go to Hell, and at the last scene, Peter contemplated his new life as a fugitive.

I'd like to see an updated version of this story. How would Peter deal with Gwen's infidelity? How would Gwen explain it? Also, consider the events of Marvels #4? Would Gwen have finished her conversations with Phil Sheldon? Would Phil have finished his book on the Captain Stacy case, publicing exhonorating Spider-Man? Would Doctor Octopus be convicted? Would Phil have figured out that Peter was Spider-Man? All sorts of possibilities here!

That's a good point, Kirayoshi (can I call you 'yoshi?). That opens up a lot of possibilities. Still, I'd rather they leave the infidelity part out, lest my brain explode from all of the posts it would generate...

How would she explain it? She'd say it's the most ridiculous thing she ever heard, that she loved Peter and would never have a cheap fling with the father of one of her classmates, no matter what some hack writer may think to the contrary...

It seems like they had said originally that she was too far away for Peter to catch her by jumping after her. Yes, her neck snapped when his webbing caught her, but didn't they also say that even if she had hit the water from that fall, the impact woulda killed her anyway?

gwen was unconscious when she was falling and she would have died from the fall in the water ! peter's inexperience is to be blamed but her death was an accident!spiderman killed Gwen eventhough Norman pulled the strings!its one of the best ,if not the best , deaths in the comic book history .

btw i am one of those but people who didnt quit amazing because of sins past . i understand that the whole storyline was a shock to all of us . If u read it carefully u will all understand that the writer does not insult Gwen at all . The storyline just makes her more human and reminds us of how much peter and her were in love [ it also explains why the goblin took Gwen and not some other pete's friend ].

i believe that if Gwen had lived she, Peter and the goblin twins will live together unhappily . under the big red eye of Norman Osborn
