View Full Version : Why so much Mr. Freeze?

Am I crazy, or does it seem like Mr. Freeze has been in too many Bat-stories recently? Is he on his way out or something? I can see why Black Mask and Penguin are around so much, but Mr. Freeze seemed to come out of nowhere with a billion appearances.
If it were up to me, I'd bring back another wacko in a glass helmet by the name of Clayface. It's been too long since we've seen ol' Preston Payne going psycho. Maybe his family life now resembles 'Leave it to Beaver'. Can you imagine how messy the Claything's room is?

You're not crazy. I don't understand it either.

The vibe I am getting is that he mind be gone for good soon. He was always crazy but now he is CRAZY.

And interesting that they follow up a Mr. Freeze LOTDK story with..........ANOTHER Mr. Freeze LOTDK story.
(Although that 2nd story is written by D. Curtis Johnson and JH Williams III - the creators of CHASE - so all is well on that front...)
I've always felt that Freeze has never really been done well in the regular books since the wonderous success of his character in the B:TAS universe. Even Paul Dini's origin story a few years back, which was a sort of adapted version of his award winning BTAS version, fell kinda flat. And of, course, Ah-nald's portrayal of him in BATMAN & ROBIN just didn't help...
Perhaps this is an attempt to fix that. :)
Or, as others have suggested, his last hurrah as a living character in the DCU. :(

VERY good points in there, Sean.

Freeze does seem to be used alot here lately. But I really dont mind. Personally, I've always been a fan of the Ice Man. And even am the proud owner of his first appearance in Batman #121 (1959). :)
I agree with Sean though. The Govenator's version of Mr. Freeze almost killed any credibility the character had going prior to the bat-bomb known as "Batman & Robin".
Good Mr. Freeze story arcs, followed by a portrayal from Ben Kingsley would be very nice.

Let's see...
Batman: the current arc includes Mr. Freeze.
LotDK: the next SEVEN issues are going to be Mr. Freeze stories.
'Tec: the current 12 issue arc involves Mr. Freeze.
Maybe they're trying to get everyone so sick of him that they can kill him off.

He would just come back again. But if it sells a few more issues, more power to them.
