If I were anal, I'd probally find some way to take offense to that, winky twinky.
If Neil Gaiman has anything to say about the topic at hand, I'd love to hear it here . . . or anywhere for that matter.

BA-ZING!
Comedy!
On the topic of Thor.... Personaly I have no real love of the "Thor Should be a God with Superhero undertones" that seems to have permiated Thor's existence for quite some time now. I'm in the camp that I want "Thor is a Superhero with Mythological Undertones"
And I certainly don't want a Gaiman-like, American Gods-Like take on the Asguardians, futher taking them away from their classic Marvel Superhero roots.
But that's just me.

I haven't read much Thor so I'm looking forward to this.
I've always been interested in the character but never picked up his book.

According to Wizard Mark Millar was meant to write the return of Thor but he has now dropped it for another chance to write ultimate FF. He was originally going to use a Neil Gaiman pitch so maybe Neil Gaiman will come forward and write it himself. I sure as hell hope he does.

Nobody should write the Iowa teen with the powers of thor pitch. I don't care who came up with it, a bad idea is a bad idea.

Well from what I have been reading they are now pushing it back more and there is no creative team as of yet. Millar is pushing Oeming who wrote the last arc to be the writer, if I remember correctly, it was in all the rage.

Oeming is doing a limited that is placed in Thor's past, sort of like "Earths Mightest Heroes". I had not heard that Millar wanted him to write the regular Thor series. As long as they don't for the teen thor on him I think it would good, he is doing an amazing job with Beta Ray Bill.

OK, here is the quote from All the Rage (http://www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com/rage/index1.htm).
Tossing The Hammer Aside
Mark Millar recently addressed the persistent rumors about his involvement with the Thor relaunch.
Long story, short: it’s not gonna happen.
But he does endorse Mike Oeming for the gig. And after reading Oeming’s Ragnarok story, I’d have to agree…
This Has A “Midgard Serpent” Factor of Eight Out of Ten
I personnally have lost interest in a possible thor title. I wouldn't expect to see anything until the new year or late 05.

This is so true a statement as I have heard in along time. When I read that in Wizard I couldn't believe someone would actually dream up something so assanine. They would have been better had they left him gone other than as something of an atherial role

May I STRONGLY recommend that you pick up the latest Essential Thor Volume 2... due out at any time. :D
This black and white collection will hold not only the Thor Annuals #1 & 2, but also Thor #113-136.... and incredible run of a continued story that features The Absorbing Man, the Trial of the Gods, The Hercules vs. the Underworld arc, Ego the Living Planet, and, if memory serves, Jane Foster becoming an Immortal. So, you have the complete continued storyline that only slightly touched on the FF and Avengers stories, lots of Asgard, lots of Earth, Greek Gods, science fiction and the conclusion of the long running sub plot of Jane Foster. All under the guiding hand of Jack Kirby and scripted by Stan Lee.
Not bad for just about $17.00
I'd say this is the premo Thor... if you can't afford the Marvel Masterworks volumes at $50 a pop for ten issues at a time.

Wow, well I hope Oeming gets it and starts up from where he leaves off in Beta ray Bill. :D

I wouldn't mind seeing an ongoing of Beta Ray Bill. The Ballad of Beta Ray Bill is one of my favorite stories from thor. It was back before everyone was able to weild the power of the God of Thunder.

Just give me Thor,The freakin' God of Thunder that I've read about for 30 years.
No re-imagining.
No Beta Ray Bill.
No Hercules.
Just Thor as he was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

the fact is that after the 'Ragnarok' storyline it would be lame if the original thor returns as he was ! Thor was given the end he deserved . But now there must exist someone to keep the legend alive in our memories...

Why would it be lame? He didnt die so there are plenty of ways to bring him back.

Well, a Iowa Teen with the powers of Thor and his own mind NOT THOR'S, (people seem to ignore that part, this is not a Donald Blake/Thor sharing of body idea, this is the teen with thors powers) is a pretty lame idea. It takes everthing except the powers away from the comic. I guess if you want more lame teen heroes it would be for you.
Sorry, Thor is not dead, he went to sleep and could easly be brought back.

Marvel already got a teen Thor (Tarene aka the designate). Not only a teen, but also a girl (like X-23 and Araña, that JoeQ seems to like so much).
So Iowa Kid Thor would not only be lame and stupid, but also redundant.

"And I certainly don't want a Gaiman-like, American Gods-Like take on the Asguardians, futher taking them away from their classic Marvel Superhero roots."
Except that a Gaiman-like, American Gods-like take would return them to their true classic mythologic roots. Roots which Marvel, except for Oeming and Millar, have disregarded to the point of unrecognizability.
"Just Thor as he was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby."
Thor wasn't created by Stan and Jack. They reimagined a cultural myth common to the Scandinavians, mainland Germanic tribes, and Anglo Saxons.
My point being, their way wasn't the original 'pure' way, and as such shouldn't be held as untouchable canon.
Especially when they put wings on his head, and Shakespearean english in his mouth.

That's all fine and dandy but I'm not asking for a comic about Thor the mytholical character.
I want Thor,The mythologiclly based SUPER-HERO that Marvel has published for over 4 decades. That's the "pure original way" that I am talking about.
If I wanted to read about the actual mythological Thor then I'd read text books and books on mythology, which I do.I want the hammer swingin' God of Thunder that's trademarked and copyrighted by Marvel Entertainment.

That's cool. I just found the underlying attitude of the two quotes I listed above to be "Don't mess with the original creation" when Stan and Jack's take wasn't the original. But I'm biased because I never liked the old 616 Thor.
What I do think we could probably agree on is that I do detest the supposed teenage Iowa Thor more that the old 616 Thor.

Most people who realize what Marvel was planning was not a Iowa teen/Thor alter ego, agree that the idea is totally crap. I like the idea of 616 Thor's return, having him deal with the loss of Asgard, and the change in the Avengers and so on.
