im guessing neither of those two. probably the mcniven spider-man variant, which was a 1 in 20 pack. i see it going for $40 - $60 on ebay.

There are actually 4 covers to New Avengers #1

There is the regular Dave finch cover, with the team in shadow and lightning behind them.

The other Dave finch variant, with the team all gathered in front of some rock thing. This cover has the OTHER mystery avenger person (nicknamed bubble-head) because of the weird dome over his face. Sentry is not on this cover.

The Quesada variant, which is a big team shot, with the team gathered in front of a wrecked, flaming Avengers mansion. This cover has the Mystery Ninja Avenger in the bottom left corner.

Finally, the really rare one is the McNiven variant, which is the shot of Spider-Man from the Quesada varient, zoomed in and drawn by Steve McNiven. This was a retailer incentive cover, limited to one per like 75 issues of the regular cover. This is why it's so expensive.

^^^im pretty sure it was a 1 in 20.
#2 was a 1 in 19, #3 was a 1 in 18, and so on.

The McNiven cover was 1 in 20. MY LCB had 14 copies so I'm sure they didn't order 1,050 copies. Granted it sold out.

Wizard's so full of crap. Wait for a year and see what the book is worth in an Overstreet. They've done this forever and halfof their "hot" books aren't worth squat a year later. Granted, the variant is more rare than a normal, but how rare is it really? As someone earlier posted, his store had 14 copies. Marvel can say it's 1 in 20, but what the number truly is, we'll never know.

I thought that this was the Director's Cut cover?....but then again I could be crazy!

People shelling out 30+ dollars for any variant to a comic being published these days are taking a risk at best. I see SO many "ultra-limited variant cover!" editions skyrocket in price while the book is hot, and then hit rock bottom when interest starts to dwindle.

Hmm, I think I will go check how much my WildCATS #1 -Gold Edition is worth these days. ;)

Hahahaha! Nice!

Sorry, I need to vent on some variants, the one variant that is starting to get on my nerves are the sketch variants. When I first saw it in Superman and Identity Crisis #1, I thought they were pretty cool. But I swear, ever issue everywhere has a coloured variant and a sketch variant now. Ultimate X-Men 50, Ultimates 2 #1, Fanastic Four #13, etc.

Here's one to remember. Does anyone remember when DC jacked with their cover logo and price with Justice League #3 and an issue of Firestorm? They tested it in specific markets like Austin and Seattle and didn't tell anyone it was coming out.

Thw only variant that I can think of off the top of my head that has increased over the years is the Star Wars #1 variant. Of course, it is Star Wars and it may very well be the first variant ever done.

They used that cover for the DC, too, but it was half normal, half sketch - like the DC for AXM #1 or YA #1. IIRC only the DC for FF #500 received the honor of a brand-new cover.

*cough* AXM Cassaday incentive *cough*

My co-worker tells me that the local comic shop clerk received seven or so variant covers to one of the recent books, didn't realize that they were going for $30 a pop, and was selling them OFF THE RACK/SHELF at cover price. Needless to say, they were all gone within a few hours of opening that day as the word spread.

Now, his boss is asking him what happened to the shipment of variant covers that were mistakenly sent to his satellite store to fill pull orders instead of the new issue that is still setting in their loading dock.

Can you say "You're fired?"
(We can only hope this jerk is cut loose soon. His explanation for not having any Black Panther #1's in his store? "Nobody is interested in him. We're in a white part of the country...."
Even if that were true, can you imagine ANYONE admitting that to his clients?)

ARRGGGHHHHH!
