No big loss, since the place has been utterly irrelevant since the mid 1980's.

Never heard of it, so it's even less of a loss for me!

I wouldn't have guessed they were still around.

CBGB's is no longer relevent to the music landscape. There's always the T-shirts...

Disagree here. a) the sheer amount of history wrapped up in that place merits its salvation and b) when you move to nyc, and you start a crappy piece of shit band with no future, you could always count on a cbgb's gig. Or you could be a friend of this band. In whichever way, that gig would always be a special thing. And this was true of any decade, since the start of the punk scene.

It's kind of sad that it's closing. I've spent quite a bit of time in NYC over the past couple of years and I never went. Regretting that one.

I've been there a few times. The bands weren't very good but it's cool to see.

Well shit ... if I ever made it to New York, that was one place that I would've liked to have seen - just because of it's place in musical history.

yeah, it's gonna be weird not having it around. i think this all sucks b/c it's not really the establishment's fault the musical landscape of today wont' support it.

Never been, but I walk by it constantly.

I was a little disappointed by the news when I first heard it because my boys got to see a hardcore show there, and I never did. And I do mean hardcore. Bobby got hit in the head with a table.

Other than a big piece of punk rock history dying, the really sad thing is that now even more posers who've never been there will be wearing the t-shirts.

You should put that in the digest. Seriously - that line was solid 24K.

I'm down with that. Just be certain to take pictures and put them in the digest.

Not that he didn't have it coming... but what exactly brought the wrath of the Mods down on him?

Not that he didn't have it coming... but what exactly brought the wrath of the Mods down on him?A bunch of bullshit he was saying over on the Comm board - lots of personal attacks, that kinda thing.

I checked the news articles and CBGB's site. Lots of stories about it facing closure, but nothing about the club itself being closed.

And he was banned in the war on drugs thread in the Comm forum (honestly I can't find the bloody thing) after Matt caught wind of his latest obnoxious remark. He told him that he received a lot of complaints over his posting conduct and having read over WSLer's posting history he decided we'd all be better off without him.

I went about it the simple way. I viewed his profile and clicked on the "View All Posts" link and looked at his latest post. I guess you'd have to be an enormous jerk to have Admin ban your ass. Dude really had it coming.

If I had a few million it would be worth it to buy out the debt and open a museum.

Which is why it's good that I don't have millions of dollars. I'd end up doing a lot of philanthropy.

But it would still be nice to have a standing record of some great music history.

Hee hee. It's a little startling to read the thread title and then this post, with nothing in between.

I don't think it's closed, but I've missed the opportunity in as much as I don't really have the chance to catch anything there (if, in fact, any acts are still playing there--I guess they'll keep using it until the end, but...)

Thought you guys might find this little piece of history interesting, Talking Heads' first performance at CBGB (http://youaintnopicasso.blogspot.com/2005/05/talking-heads-live-at-cbgbs-june-1975.html). I haven't listened to it yet, so I'm not sure what the sound quality is.

EDIT: The tracklisting is...

1. Girls Just Want To Be With The Girls
2. Psycho Killer
3. With Our Love
4. Artists Only
5. I Wanna Live
Are all on one track, track "2" is
6. Warning Sign
